Rittenhouse, William Brewer (Died)
- Full Text
A scion of the early pioneer Pennsylvania families died on Sunday morning at his home in Clinton township in the person of William Brewer Rittenhouse, who was in his 78th year. Deceased suffered a severe paralytic stroke on Saturday, from which he never recovered consciousness. To mourn a kindly and considerate husband and father he leaves his widow, two sons and three daughters - Howard and Nelson, on the old homestead; Mrs. Kratz, of Philadelphia; Mrs. William Collard, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Miss Anna, at home. Throughout the larger portion of his life he interested himself with the well-being of his fellow men. In fruit growing and in educational affairs he will be remembered among the people who knew him best. He had little heart for municipal politics, but for several years served on the township council, was a director of the Clinton Agricultural Society, and for a long time was chairman of the Lincoln county board of license commissioners in the days before prohibition. Deceased made several trips to the West Indies, and on his return pleased many local audiences with his lucid description of the places and scenes of his travels, illustrating them with lantern views. Some ten years ago he moved from his large fruit and vegetable farm, leaving its care in the hands of his sons, and was living at Vineland when he passed away. The funeral took place to Vineland cemetery on Tuesday.
