The golden wedding anniversary of the Victor W. Thompsons was celebrated recently at a reception at St. Andrew's Parish Hall. Their son Robert and his family from Barrie were present, and also their daughter Philippa Hood and her family from Rossland, B.C. The Thompsons were married in Florida in 1922 and came to Grimsby in 1932, where they owned a fruit farm on Main St. W., now owned by the Frank Sommers family. "Vic" Thompson was born and educated in Ottawa. He joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1916 and trained in England. He fought in France for 10 months before being shot down and reported killed. He recovered and returned to England, where by the end of the war, he was pilot for his cousin, Gen. Alec McDougall, head of the Can. Forestry Corps. He also flew in the Second World War, and commanded several air training stations under the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. He was awarded the Air Force Cross and a Mention in Despatches. Mrs. Thompson is a native of Boston, Mass.
