- Richard Amos Ball, son of an escaped slave, was a minister at the British Methodist Episcopal Church in St. Cathrines. He and his family were members of the Ball Family Jubilee Singers, a gospel-music group, who toured Canada and the United States several times. Richard Amos Ball knew Harriet Tubman and Hiram Wilson.
