In the death of Thomas Theal which took place at his home on the Buckbee Road on Friday, May 28, 1909, the Township of South Grimsby, and the County of Lincoln lost one of its most prominent and highly respected citizens. The late Thomas Theal was a life-long resident of South Grimsby, being a most successful business man and one who was honored and respected by all who knew him. He had attained the age of 76. The deceased gentleman served his township a number of years in the municipal council in the capacity of councillor, reeve and county councillor and was noted for his keen business methods, his carefulness and economy and for his able handling of the finances. In politics he was a Liberal, in religion a Universalist, a man of blameless life and high character. The funeral took place on Monday, May 31, and was largely attended by relatives, acquaintances and neighbours. Services were held at the house and interment took place at Union Cemetery, Smithville. The Rev. John Muir, M.A., of Grimsby officiated. The deceased is survived by a wife, who is a sister to the late Edward Irvine, who was, for so many years clerk first of the Township of Grimsby, and afterwards of the Township of South Grimsby; three sons, Herbert, Richard and James and one daughter, Mrs. Howard Bartlett.
