- Description
- This black and white photograph shows a long pier almost filled with people who are disembarking from a steamship at Grimsby Park pier. The steamship is in the background along with its accompanying crew. Also in the background, there are three canoes attached to the left side of pier. The perspective of the photograph enhances the crowding on the pier.
- Notes
- Steamships were a main means of transportation to Grimsby Park starting in 1876. There were several ships that brought visitors from Toronto, St Catharines, Hamilton, and Port Dalhousie. Steamships ran Monday through Saturday. Note the wooden walls built up at the front of the pier. They probably served a dual purpose; keeping visitors safe, and preventing them from circumventing the ticket booth.
