The death occurred at his home 13 Robinson street north on Saturday, after a lingering illness of many months duration, of William Arnold Layton, husband of Mildred Schofield Layton. Deceased was born in Ireland and came to Houston, Texas with his family as a young lad. Early in life he took up theatricals and was well known as a character comedian. He was one of the last of the old troupers of the Show Boat era on the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, as well he had toured all over Canada and the United States in the show business. He came to Grimsby to reside permanently about 15 years ago and retired from active show business about five years ago. His wife is the sole survivor. Funeral services were conducted in St. Andrew's church by Rev. E.A. Brooks on Tuesday afternoon interment being in St. Andrew's churchyard. Casket bearers were Frank Hitchman, Cecil Farrow, Norman Todd, Lorne McMane, Matthew Fisher and Wray Betts.
