A resident of Grimsby for 34 years, death came quietly on Sunday afternoon to Mr. George C. Whyte, a highly respected resident of this district. Deceased was born in Ottawa October 17th, 1860, and was in his 85th year. He moved to Grimsby with his family in 1911 and purchased a block of fruit land on the south side of Main Street, just west of the cemetery gates and erected thereon a fine new home. With three of his sons he served overseas in the First Great War. He retired from farming some years ago. His wife predeceased him in 1930. Surviving are three sons and one daughter, Hugh K. of Grimsby; Barclay of Penticton, B.C.; Paul of Toronto and Mrs. Sydney Hutton of Ottawa. Funeral services were conducted from the Stonehouse Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. E.A. Brooks, officiating. Interment was in the family plot in Queen's Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers were a grandson, Harold Whyte, of Grimsby, Harold Woolverton, Nelles Rutherford, George and Malcolm Nelles, Chas. A. Farrell.
