A resident of the Lower Thirty, Clinton Township, for over 35 years, Capt. Christopher H. Battersby died in Hamilton Hospital during Saturday night ... last autumn moved from his farm to reside with Mrs. Thomas Liddle at Rossmore, Grimsby ... the late gentleman, in company with his brother-in-law the late A.E. Wickstead, came to this district from England about the year 1910 and purchased a fine fruit farm on the lake shore in Clinton Township. In 1914 when war broke out both men immediately returned to England and joined the Forces. Mr. Wickstead was killed in action, but Capt. Battersby served until 1918 in Egypt and the Far East with the Calvary Brigade. Returning to Canada he settled on his farm and had been a continuous resident since. His widow, now in England, survives him. ... Interment in St. Andrew's Churchyard, Grimsby.

One of the best known businessmen in the Niagara Peninsula, John Wardell Kennedy, passed away at his home, King St., Beamsville, on Sunday, after an illness of three days duration. He was in his 72nd year. A life long resident of Beamsville ... Surviving are two sons, J.R. and Harry of Beamsville; three daughters, Mrs. Philip Wismer, of Jordan; Mrs. Charles Morningstar of Galt, and Mrs. D. Reid of Niagara-on-the-Lake; a brother, Lewis, of Tacoma, Washington and a sister, Mrs. Laura Bryant, Detroit. The funeral took place from his late home on Wednesday afternoon to Mount Osborne Cemetery.
