Full Text

A grand little lady celebrated a birthday on Sunday last in the person of Mrs. Conrad Shafer, 19 Murray Street. It was the occasion of her 82nd anniversary. Surrounded by her sons and daughter, and visited by many friends, she had a very happy day indeed.

Born Emma Voight at Hawkesville on July 16th 1862, she was married in 1885 to Mr. Shafer of Ayton, and they came to Grimsby in 1907, Mr. Shafer to work at his trade of carpenter for the D. Marsh firm.

The little lady is bright and fresh and very active. She possesses all her faculties except her hearing and is very interested in all that is taking place in Grimsby and the Dominion.

A grandson, O.S. Bruce Shafer, R.C.N. stationed at St. Hyacinthe, Que., managed to get home for a few brief hours on her natal day.

Her children are Gordon, Harvey, William and Richard of Grimsby; Addison of Meadville, PA; Herman of Montreal and Mrs. Gerald Carson of Grimsby.
