A resident of many years standing in this district, there passed away in Hamilton Hospital, on Monday night, Mrs. Jean Howarth, relict of the late H.A. Howarth, in her 83rd year. Deceased lady came to Grimsby many years ago and for a long time fruit farmed at the corner of Baker's Road south and No. 8 Highway. Since the death of her husband she has resided at the corner of Nelles Road and the highway. She was a very well read woman and had many accomplished attainments. For many years she was one of the prominent breeders and exhibitors of Pomeranian dogs in the Dominion and won many prizes in Canada and the United States with her pets. She had spent New Year's day the guest of Jas. A. and Mrs. Wray, and when leaving their home that evening slipped and fell on the ice, breaking her hip. She was immediately taken to hospital but never recovered from the injury. The remains were brought to the Stonehouse Funeral Home, where a short service was held on Wednesday night, then taken this morning by C.N.R. to Peterboro for interment in the family plot.
