Mrs. John J. Hewitt, who lived at 14 Arthur avenue south, Hamilton, mother of John Hewitt, Robinson street south, died in that city on Sunday, at the age of 76 years. She was born in York, Ontario, but moved from there to Hagersville when she was 16 years old and 30 years ago came to Hamilton. The deceased, who prior to her marriage was Margaret Martindale, belonged to St. John Presbyterian Church and leaves many friends in Hamilton. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George Tarves (Alma) of Hamilton; three sons, Frederick, in Regina; Charles, of Peterboro; and John, in Grimsby; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Barrett, Hamilton; and Mrs. E.J. Wright, in Oregon; a brother, John Martindale, of Alhambra, Calif., and nine grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. James Dick (Mary) of Toronto, died on January 4th of this year. The funeral was held from the Harold C. Swackhamer Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in Hagersville Cemetery.
