Despite the fact that it was 3:30 in the morning, the little village of Smithville turned out en masse on Sunday morning last to welcome home from overseas, on leave, a native son, a veteran of 86 operational flights over enemy territory.

Motoring from Hamilton with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Merritt, Flight-Lieut. Hugh Merritt, R.C.A.F., was greeted by Reeve Goodman Pettigrew, the town fathers, the village band and a great throng of citizens...
