Mr. Davey. The altar and choir gallery were hand- somely ornamented with house plants which added to the attractive appear- ance of the interior and filled the audi- torium with their rich perfnme. The school appeared to good advantage, and did the singing very creditably. The sermons were eloquent, appropri- ate and highly appreciated by the large audiences both morning and evening. THE E-NTERTAINMEST on Tuesday evening was not as well attended as the merits of the occasion deserved. There was a superabund- ance of excellent eatables provided. The program was commenced on time and well sustained throughout, the children maintaining excellent order. Revs. Tongo andFydcIl each gave a capital address. The singing was par- ticularly good, and reflects much ciedit on Jliss Pickell, whose rare ability and commendable faithfulness as leader and organist, was the means of crown- ing that importaflt part of the program with success. This; anniversary throughout was a success as far as the school coutroled it, for which Mr. Ennis, the superintendent, and bia abls staff of officers deserve credit. STICK TO THE BIOHT. The most timely editor- ials on live stock topics are "Dishorn- ing Cattle," "Autumn Management of Sheep." "Preparation of Food for Stock," while amongst the contribu- tion we notice Prof. Shaw's article, the fourth in the series, on "Pure Breeds of Cattle." Another corres- pondent begins the historical series on the "Standard Bred Horse." A Scot- tish breeder of Ayrshires gives his ex- perience and indicates how the Ayr- shire might be farther developed. Letters on interesting questions from all parts of the Dominion are pub- hshed. 'I'he animal portraits that are given include one of the famous champion Hereford cow Bosewater and the handsome Hackney stallion Bufus that won the Ehenham Cup of England. A large portrait qf John Dryden, Esq., M. P. P., is accompani- ed with a well written sketch of his life. "Purchasing Seed Wheat," and "A New Disease of Oats," are discuss- ed. The latter trouble is thought to be due to a small worm, for which the remedies are gast lime and rotation. A contributor treating of the value of cheese factories cites cases where, larmers under common circumstances have earned throagh them, thirty dol- lars per cow clear profit. Other arti- cles on dairy matters include one on "Valuing Milk for Chetsemaking," in which it is shown that cheese factories should consider tbe quahty of tbe milk as well as its weight, and pay accord- inijly. Mr. Joseph Youill, a dairyman of much experience, enumerates nine of the most commonmistakes in batter making, the principal of which are keepmg beef stock for milkers, and the use of the shallow pan system of set- ting milk. An exceedingly interest- ing featore ii the new department, "Aroand the Couosel Table," in wbicb the question oi how to make the Farmers' Institate more effective and attractive is discussed by Jas. Mills, President of the Agricultural College, L. Woolverton, Seo'y Fruit Growers' Association, Prof. Jas. W. Bobertson, Gentritl Farm, Ottajra, Professor Thomas Shaw. Octario Agricnltaral College, D. M. MoPhe^on, John I. Hobson, and others. The White Hol- land Turkeys, a new introdaetionthat promise maob, are described, and perhaps the most timely sobjeet in hortioolture is the beaatifalilliistrated article on winter bulbs, in which the merits ot the Chinese 8a$red Idly are given. i 11 1 To avoid ^atehing oold, many plana have been angseatad.
