His remains were deterred in Christ Church cemetry, Markdale, on Sunday, and were follow- ed ^0 their last resting place by a large connection of mourners and a very large concourse of people. On Tuesday- morning a train of 28 freight cars was coming up the moun- tain, approachmg Orange ville, when it was found the engine was unable to carry the entire train, and a number of the cars were detached. When partly up the grade, it was found that there were already too many, and a second detachment took place but the second detached cars rushed back upon the former, with a velocity of 80 miles an hour. Gunning- ham who was at hand and beat the vicious brute back thereby rescuing Mr. Irwin. He is accusing me of making false state- ments injurious to the S. School. Now this I deny, the whole tenor of the item was^ against certain parties who were grumbling at the discussion of the meeting held by the o£cials and firiends of the S. School. You would think that the S. Scnool was a private affair, wholly under the control of Mr. Buchanan, aud that no person had any right to interfere with ibf busi- ness without getting his consent. He says when they want their proceedings published they will get their secretary to do it as from the tenor of his re- marks he is the only capable person to do so. Then he goes on to say that your correspondent some time ago gave a false report of the finances of the school. Who is their correspond- ent Is it their secretary who is so capable of givmg everything correct Mr. Buchanan says that there was no decision arriyed at about an excursion. Beport had it different. Your corres- pondent was asked by several parties what time the excursion train left the station. Our advice to friend Buchanan is that the next time that he reads an item of correspondence relating to the S. School to read it over twice before he flies off at a tangent. Your corres- pondent is just as good a friend of the S. School as Mr. Buchanan, if he does happen to be the superintendent.
