Our bridge which was carried away by the spring freshet, has been replac- ed, completed and highly commended as a creditable job. A representative of one of the rival firms of school book publishers was here this week, but as the other house was not represented, there was no war of words. The merchants have been busy during the week, stocking Iheir shelves with new goods, and brushing up and re-arranging old ones, with a view to business on Thursday and Friday next. The county valuators were here last week engaged in the valuation of Pro- ton. From what can he learned, the valuation will not be favourable to the poor towi?ships. Candidates for Municipal honors are smiling serenely on the ratepayers just now. At present there are pros- pects of being lively times at the next municipal election. The names of J. J. Middleton, T. Hanbury, A. Mc- Phail, D. McMUlan, and T. Fennel are mentiraed in connection with the Reeveship. It is understood that our present Reeva will not run again, Mr. Agnew the present Deputy Reeve will probably be a candidate for the same position next year the councillors will probably all be in the field with some opposition though to what extent is at present uncertain.
