Ginerally, however, the horse is per- manently lamed, unless the cause is remavad, which is very aeldom -and ofUn entirely ruined lor travel or mtttk Spavins are meet generally produced by a strain or overwork in drawing. The bony excrescence or substance of wUcb it is oomposad wUl grow quite fast and aometimes gives the appear- anoe of an enlarged joint, and uulees -attended to in seaewi will soon bee me difficult to mausge. Many remedies have been devised for this difficulty, but usually wiU. vorv iudiffereut suc- cess. BlisterinK is generally resorted to when anything is attempted, aud will in some caaea. wlien properly p«?r- formed. stop the growth of the spavui but will not remove the bunch already lormedorcure the lameness, besides the process is a painful one producing soreness and rendering the horse more or less unnt for service. „ Some four years aro Dr. B. J. Ken- dall of Enosburgh FaUs, Vt.. having horse troubled with spavm tried blistering to cure it. The operation appeared so painful and onsatisfactorv that it was abandoned with the beUef that a remedy less torturmg in its af- plication and more certain in its ef- fect inlfht oe devised. Accordingly the Doctor set himself to work, and being a practical physician and drug- gist, succeeded in preparing a remedy that since its introduction to public notice, has achieved a success that is of the most satisfactory character. About three years sine*, hearing of several cases where " Kendall's Spa Vin Cure," as the remedy is termed, had been used with good effect, I took somo paius to ascertain the facts m the case, and reported tbe Fame for several of our leading agricultural journals. I give a few instances to which I am personally knowing. Mr. E. A. Gaiues, of Berkshire, Vt., own- ed a valuable horse having a spavin of the size of a hen's egg, and produc- ing severe lameness. After trying i \vi,rat,Sirin the usual remedies with no eflfect, i Barley learning of "Kendall's Spavin Cure," j IVas bottle was obtained and used ac- 1 ^^'"^^ Uke his p.!^ •Jj« » J» i is to do Bo make. tK t^ ** "Ithr tl'epubli^,^P^ BIG BOOM IN WATCHES. The skilled hand can often defy the most adverse sur roundiugs, while tlie ignorant and careless butter-maker will fail under almost any aid all ciicumstauces, the factory man labors under the dis- advantage of having to combine the milk of many dairymen, thus conten- ding with the faults of all. The slo- venly habits of one may destroy the good effects of nice habits iu all ths others. The presence of particular weeds in only one of perhaps the fifty pastures he gathers his milk from will disturb the cquinimity of his milk's quality. Then it is often hM that uiilk after travelling aii considerable distance is not in as .good condition for making butter as that wliich i? not Bul jected to sueh a trial. So far as the amount of batter to make from a given quantity of milk is coiicerued. this ii probably true but as to the quality of butter made from sncl: milk, there may be grave doubts as t« tbe suspicions being well founde«l. It ib again exceedingly difficult to keep the siirroundinga of a faotiry in as clean and sweet conditjou as' thkt of a private dairy, and i' is rarelvv «o have seen it done. Tiie priva- dairy man nas ihe advantaise of having c iin- piete control over all matters pertain iuj, to the pro.liiciiig of the milk \\r handles, and should theref.ire be sMe to acc^mtilish the veiy bent lesnlih. Tne applica- I tion produced uo blistering, did not appear to be painful, snd lelt no fcar or callous. A one dollar bottle was used aud it cured the spann, stopping the lameness and removing the buuch. I examined the legs carefully aud could find no difference in the size of the joints, and could not tell upon which the spavin was located. The horse Las been worked hard since and upon examining liim the scroud time a while since, after an iutcival of three or four years, was pleased to find uo return of the difficulty iu any phape or laauner 'One leg is as sound and perfect to all appearance as the other. Mr. N. F. Weld, also of Berkshire, Vt., treated a bad case of Bp^viii with thib remedy and iu six weeks the lameness was gone, the buuch nearly removed aud he considered the horse cured. There has been no return of the difficulty suce, nlthojgh the horse has bern worked hard. A. A. SimpkiuR of West Enosburgh, Vt., has had an exp irience si inilar to the above, an I oth -rs mi^ht be given, but these may be considered sufficient to establish rhe fact of the curative fiow- eib of this remedy, and also, which is equally important, the permanence of the cu. c the relief afforded being not t"mp'rary, but lasting in effect. Equd success has been had with "Kendall Spavin Cure" in the treat mei't of spliuts. curb, rirg-bono, bruises, stiains of diQerent kinds, cal- lous, etc. I wish to call paiticulur attention to this as a humane method of.treatiiicut, the remedy, while it is effioi'iit in operation yet does not pro- duce pain 01- soreness, as is the case «ith must ap lications.
