Ross on Thursday of last week with a good attendance of members and visitors. The devotional paper was given by Mrs. E. Buckingham, who chose for her subject, Msutha, which was greatly enjoyed by all present. Word was received by relatives, that Sgt. James Kerton has been wounded in France. Rev. Jacklin of St. Mary's Anglican Church preached his fare>well sermon on Sunday last. Rev. Bradbury will be the new rector. Rev. Jacklin is being transferred to Forest. Mrs. Jas. Kerton and sister, Dolly, of Fanconbridge spent a couple of weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Fenwick. St. Mary's Guild will meet at the home ofiMrs. F. J. Seeley on Thuxs day, August 17th. Mrs. Gordon Collins of Brockville is visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Buckingham. Mrs. Ren Acheson and family have returned to their home at Chelten- ham after spending a vacation at Mrs. Acheson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ross. Mrs. Wright from the West is visiting her brother, Mr. Robt. Blakey and family. Rev. and Mrs. Holmes and Leonard have returned home from their vacat- ion. We are glad to see Mrs. Holmes much improved in health. Mr. Harold Lougheed of Toronto, supplied in the United Church pulpit on Sunday and was much enjoyed by all who heard him. The W. I. will meet at the home of Mrs. E. Buckingham on Tuesday, August 15th, instead of August 10th. Mrs. Sadie Priestley of Toronto is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Angus McLeod. Mrs. Alice Nichols and Reg. of Toronto are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Mr. and Mrs. 'Cecil McKechnie and family spent the week end of July 30 at the former's parental home at Mal- ton and attended the MoKechnie-An- dcrson reunion. Recent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George McTavish were Miss Beryl Henry of Montreal, Miss- es June Pallet and Jean McTavish of Toronto, and L.A.C. Ted McTav- ish of St. Jean,, Queibec. Mr. Percy Rpliamy and son, Alfred, of Long Branch spent the first of the week visiting relatives and calling on old friends in town. Percy's oldest son, Percy, is overseas and is now with the Canadians in Normandy. Mrs. Campbell and Sheila of To- ronto, who have spent the past two weeks at the home of her brother, Ross Stevens, and other relatives, re- turned home Friday. Miss Lavina Stephens retured with Ahem for a holiday. Still wrapped up in -her hobby of making quilts and mats, Mrs. Cath- erine McLeod on Wednesday, July 26, reached her 88th birthday. If any evidence were needed to prove that her fingers have lost none of their doftness despite her [ipe age, it would be mentioned that during the past year she has made and quilted about fifty quilts and hooked several mats besides. Mrs. McLeod is interested in all that goes on around her including the progress of the war. She has five grandchildren â-  serving with the King's colors and is most anxious to meet a grand-daughter-in-law, an English girl, whom one of her grand- sons, Opl. James Lawrence, married since going overseas. She has 26 grandchildren. A highly respected, soft s/poken woman, Mrs. McLeod is a member of the United Church and is held in high regard by all who know her. Twice married, her first huslband was James iHopps, Prom this marriage two chil- dren survive, namely: James Hopps, Portlaw, and Mrs. Clifford Bowes, Stratford. Some time after Mr. Hopps' demise she married Daniel }McLeod of Flesherton, where she Spent the greater part of her life. They also farmed in Priceville dis- trict several years. Two daughters and two sons survive from this mar- riage. They are Mrs.^W. J. Wellwood (Alice). Dundalk, Mrs. Robt. Wilson (Tena), DT.irhara, and Herb, a veteran of the last war, who is a patient in London hospital, and John. Another son, Bert, lost his life in an accident at Priceville 16 years ago. In recent months Mrs. McLeod do- nated butterfies for a butterfly quilt which she herself made and donated to a group of school children, includ- ing two of her grandchildren, the proceeds to go to the British War Victims' Fund.
