WEDNESDAY. DECEMBER 21. Wtl THE FLESIIERTON ADVANCE Christmas 1932 I rhristmas time provideB one of those rare moments in life u'hun wi> foi'Kct the rush and cares of business and (five thought to the more worth-while things of life. It is a time when we feel tolerant toward the entire worhl and (leeiily jtratefui for the happiness and friendships with [ which we have been surrounded. It inspires us to franltly | express our gratitude for all of these fine thnigs. ; As your friendship and patronage have generously contrib- > uted to our happiness ami welfare, we want you to know that ! our thoughts at this time are of you. We wish you an abundance of good health, prosperity and happiness for the New Year. F. PINDER, Flesherton QUALITY HRINGS PRICE "In spite of the usual heavy De- cember marketings, at the Union Stock Yards, choice cattle are still bringing a favorable jirico margin,' commented Garnet H. Duncan, live stock investigator, Ontario Marketing Board. "This should serve as a remindei to producers that (juality is a very definite factor in any orderly scheme < of marketing. Forced liiluidation for tax payment, is one reason foi the market being flooded with stock of both choice and indifferent quality, at certain periods of the year. If this is so. I would say that a remedy migh* be affected by means of co- operation between the producer and his local municipal authorities." Read The Advance advertisements. Heavy storms visited us on Wed- nesday ar'd Thursday of last week and many roads were blocked. The provincial snow plow came north on Friday and opened Highway 10, re- turninij on Saturday. The town.«hip of Osprcy is not gett- ing along very well with the collec- tion of taxes. On Dec. 15 only one- third of the taxes had been paid. At that date Artemesia had collected 60 per cent. The United ci'.urch decoration on .Sunday included a handsome Easter lily, contributed by Mrs. Frank Thurs- ton. It is unusual for an Easter lily to bloom at Christmas time, and thi? quite as appropriate as it would be for Easter. Dr. R. H. Henderson of Toronto, on account of ill-health, on the advice of his physician has been forced to retire from business for a period of six months. After thirty-five stren- uous years of dental practice, twonty- five of which he has specialized in Exodontia (extraction of teeth) the many friends of the doctor in the villa.c-o and vicinity will regret to learn of his indisposition, but hope that a six months' rest may restore him to his usual health. The exercises in St. John's Sabbath school took an unusual turn last Sun- day when views were shown on the canvas of our missionary work in Dondi and Angola, .West .'Vfrica. A picture of David Livingstone the Krcat missionary and explorer of .\frica was shown, whose heart was buried in Africa, but whose body lies in Westminihter Abbey, having been carried hundreds of miles to the cost by some of his faithful converts. Dr Murray manipulated the lantern and Mt^. Murray told the story. It was all very ir.tercstinp. A Hungry Fish The Sault Star is in the habit of rolatinjir some remarkable stories ol rishinjj and hunting expcrien;es, but we have scon nothing from the pen ol Bro. Curran that can outyarn thi following incident related to us re ccntly. The alTair occurred on thi Lake of the Woods last August and is vouche<l for by a resident of Chicagc whose word we liave no if.tsori ti doubt. It was a bright sunshiny afternoor when a party of gentlemen were troll- 'ng on the lake. It was ncaring sun- down when one of the party, who wcie glasses, was leaning over the l)ow of the boat. The sun had evid- ently focused on his glasses, making a blight spot, which a large fish de- cided was something good to cat Juniping out of the water it grabbed the (glasses, at the same time spla.sh ing a de!uge of water over the fisher- man. A moment afterwards there was a tug at the troll and the big fish was brought alongside, but man- aged to pull loose. However, the troll had caught the glasses in the fish's ((ullet and were recovered! Snow shovelKng is a favorite pas- time this week. Mr. Herbert Corbett, Proton, is I'ics. of the Ont. Trustee and Kate- payers Association, attended a meet- ing of the llclloville District hehl in Brighton last wvek and also an organ- ization meeting of a Coimty B'<socia tion in Sydenham of the County of Front er«ac.
