Knox and his niece and nephew, the latter two going to their home at Bowmanville. Many of the farmers in this vicin- ity have commenced harvesting and some have threshed their fall wheat. The highest yield of wheat which we have heard of, v/as that threshed on Mr. Jack Nichol's farm. Mr. Nichol had 147 bushels of No^ 1 wheat from three acres. Mrs. Parks and son of Toronto are visiting her mother, Mrs. W. Mills. Mr. and Mrs. F. Collinson motored to Owen Sound tlie past week and was accompanied home by Misses Francis, Marge and Jean, who have been visiting their grandmother. Mrs. A. Muir and son, Grant, vis- ited the past week with her brother in Durham and Miss Jean Grant of Durham visited her aunt this week. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Connell of Man- itowaning visited the first of the week with Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart. Mr. Maclvor to the Priceville and Swinton Park congi-egations too.'; place in ihe Pres- byterian church at Swinton Park last week, when a very large crowd was present from both congregations. The Moderator T. 0. Miller of Markdale, conducted the opening exercises and cited the steps taken in calling a min- ister. Rev. Mr. Grant of Erin pre- sented the usual questions as to be- lief, doctrines and loyalty, which wero freely .answered. The address to the congregation was given by Rev. Mr. Goodwill. He assured the congrega- tion that the new incumbent was a good leader and a good shepherd. God expects the same attitude to his minister as to himself, as a kinsj does hi,H good general., He said that since more good is obtained by prayer the bearers should make four requests to bless by prayer his sermon, his ministry, his prayer and presence Rev. Mr. Goodwill of Hillsburg ad- dressed the minister and he congratu- lated him on his call and hoped that he would be blessed in his new work. The call is to preach the Gospel earn- estly. God's word that has stood the test for ages, is to carry the Gospel to the young people, the coming lead- ers of the church. Do to the best of your ability and with co-operation ot the people you will be given the ver- dict and he stressed church attend- ance, coming to church is ones dut> and privilege. Rev. The members sang a hymn with musicai accompaniment. After the program they lunched in the park, then pro- ceeding to the Munshaw House where they gave a few selections on the lawn. Mr. Peter Munshaw treat- ed them right royally to a soft drini^ each, afterwards leaving for Durham where tehy gave a program in th.; evening. Quite a number from around here attended the musical program given by the Chesley Band at Eugenia Park Sunday afternoon, and it was greatly en.ioyed by all. Mr.i and ilfrs. Carman Stoddart East back line, were recent visitor? with the former's sister, Mrs. Herfc Betts and family. Unity United Farm Women met at the home of Mrs. Newell on Wed- nesday afternoon of last week, with ten ladies present. The president presided and opened the meeting with song and repeating Creed in Unison. Roll call v.ai ar.=wered by naming a noxious weed and showing a sample of same. Minutes of last meeting were read and adopted and corres- pondence from head office was read and discussed. The ladies decided to hold a corn roast in the near fut- ure. Mrs. W. Magee then gave a splendid reading entitled "Invest- ments" and Miss Mable Betts favored with an instrumental, which was en- joyed by all. Frank Teskey and Pete Morrison arrived back to their homes in Collingwood last week arter a "hitch hiking" trip to Halifax and reiurn. It was a great experience for the boys, who visited the principal cities en route. Expenses were earned at any jobs available, dressing' windows being a specialty. The delayed haying operations art being hurried to a finish this beauti- ful weather. One appreciates the sunshine, after the long period of rainy weather. The United church congregation is preparing for their anniversary, which takes place on .\ugust 28th.
