Mrs. Howard McKee visited with friends in the Queen City last week Mrs. Torrence Williams visited with Mr. and Mrs. Firman Irish last week at Wareham. Miss Mary Speer visited with her aunt, Mrs. A. Henderson, in Colling- wood last week. Mr. Joseph Thomson visited with his brother-in-law, Mr Roy, at Mono recently. Miss Bessie Potts of Badgero, was' a recent visitor with her sister, Mrs William Heitman, and family. Mr. Wheeler of Collingwood, Dis- trict Inspector for the Wawanesa Fire j Ins. Brown, an old lady, 82 years of age, had the misfortune to fall on the floor and break a bone in her hip one day last week and her condition is thought to be serious aa| she has not been in good health for some timo. She has been living with. her daughter, Mrs. Annie Wright for! some time. Her many friends will ' regret to hear of her accident. Mr. and M"rs. A large gathering of friends and eld neighbors attended the funeral of the late Mrs. McCallu.m from the' home of her son-in-law, Mr. John Stephen, on the -1th line to the United Church cemetery at Maxwell. Rev. j Mr. McPherson held service at the house and officiated at the graveside ! Numbers from here attended the' funeral. Mr. Hugh Davidson of Collingwood is presiding at the Entrance Examin- ations here this week.' Mr. and Mrs. Winslow Kernahan who have been living in Toronto foi the winter months, have returned toj enjoy the Blue Mountain air and are, visiting with the former's parents,! Mr. and Mrs. J. A. PRICEViLLE Oh Tuesday p.m. the Ladies met in the church here and quilted two quilts for the bale. 24 ladies were present and Mrs. McMeekin, Mrs. A. B. Mc- Arthur. Mrs. John McMeekin and Erma McLean served a bountiful lunch at the close. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hobson, the r.ewly weds, of Hamilton, accompan- ied by Mrs. Mepham and Mrs. Mc- Meekin spent the week end at Mc- M'eekin's. The latter spent three weeks visiting in Hamilton, her sis- ter, Mrs. Mepham is staying for a fortnight visit. Messrs. Earl McLean, Murray Mc- Millan and Gilvray motored to To- ronto last week. The latter remain,. 1 for a few days holidays and returned home Sunday. Mrs. H. McDonald and daughter Mrs. Craig, spent over a week visit- ing in Toronto. Misses Irene and Ethel Taylor, ot Flesherton are visiting their aun:, Mrs. Allie McLean. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Richardson and son, Donald of Toronto are holiday- ing here with friends and relatives. Mrs. Peter Muir is visiting with her daughter, Mrs. Harry Houston. Peterborough. Mrs. Neil Norman, Dundalk, visit- ed last week with her sister, Miss Nellie McLean. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Tucker, with Mr. D. Hincks, Jean and Almeda, vis- ited first of the week at Mr. \Vilfreo Magee's, Eugenia. Mr. Clifford Hincks is presiding at Palmerston this week. Mrs. Wm. Bell of Paisley is visit- ing at her brother's Messrs. Archie. Donald, and Alex. Stewart's. Miss Beth Hincks is engaged to; teach school at Hampden. Mr. Innis McLean, Toronto, spent the week end at his home. His moth- er, Mrs. Colin McLean, accompanied him back for a week's holidays. Messrs. Alex. McLean and Allan Mclnnis are home from Hamilton on their holidays. EUGENIA PROTON STATION The Pilgrim Holiness camp meet-| ing is in progress and will continue) until July 3rd. A good attendance is reported. Many come a long dis- tance, two carloads being present an Sunday from Toronto. A number of visitors are camping on tht grounds. Rev. Wingrove Ives, a re- turned missionary, is a fine singer ind Rev. W. J. Tompkins of Harris ton is the special speaker. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Hannah ot Berkeley visited Proton friends on Su"dav. Mr. and Mrs. \Ves never, Mr. John Dever and Mr. Alex. Stewart visited at Mr. Hugh Copeland's, Beth;!. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Reddick and little dat'erhter of Dundalk vicinity. Mr. ami Mrs. David Reddick of Swin- ton Park were Sunday visitors at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Reddick. Capt. Franz von Papen was kicked out of Washington in 1925 and in 1932 landed in the chair of Chancellor ot Berlin. If he found a landing field in between we have heard nothing ot it. Johnston of Flesherton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Magee the first of the week. Mr. and Mrs. McCowell re- mained for a couple of days. Mr. Robt. Plantt accompanied his son, Fred, and wife to Barrie on Saturday and visited his brother and other friends there. Mrs. M. McMullen attended the Randle-Stuart wedding at Meaford on Tuesday, June 21st. The bride, Miss Donelda Stuart, is a granddaughtei of Mrs. McMullen. We wish the young couple many happy days of wedded lifp. The four Entrance candidates from the 8th line writing their examina- tion.; this week at Flesherton are: Willie and Edith Fenwick, Wes Jam- ieson and Fern Magee. Their teach- er, Miss Sinclair, has used untiring afforts in aiding them along, giving up her time on holidays and Satur- days, as well as extra hours through- out the week for the past couple of month?. ROCK MILLS *+ The Rock Mills and Portlaw public schools will hold their annual joint picnic on Thursday afternoon, June 30th in Mr. Akitt's bunh. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Pedlar and family and Mrs. Royden McDonald [ visited recently with friends at Kim- j berley. Mr. ard Mrs. W. Hargravo of I Wareham and Mr. and Mrs. J. Small and son, Lloyd of Alliston visited with the former's brother here, Mr. John Hargrave, and tamily. A number from here attended the Pilgrim Holiness camp meetings at Proton on Sunday. Fisher, Flesherton. Mr. Wm. Pedlar spent a day the past week calling on many of his old friends at Eugenia. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Meldrum and two sons of Portlaw visited recently with relatives here. Miss Minnie Graham and Miss Lee of Listowel spent the week end at the former's home here. Miss Hazel Wyville, R. N., is spend- ing a month with friends in Toronto and Buffalo. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McConnell of Pickering and Mr. Douglas Zimmer man of Toronto were visitors at the Graham home recently. There was a very large attendance at the Women's Institute District meeting for Centre Grey, which was held in the church here on Thursday last, June 23rd. Plans are being made by a comm-ittee at Toronto for a gi- gantic celebration provincial in scope to be held on August 6th of that year M'r. J. E. Middleton, who wrote the 'Romance of Ontario," will be com- missioned to write a souvenir booV- let and the Federal government will in all probability be asked for a spe- cial coin and stamp issue. A leading feature in the celebration should be a recognition of the "progress madt in our educational system. The pop- ulation of this province was less than 100,000 at the invasion of 1$12 and has since grown to 3,374,000. Govern- or Simcoe made provision for a uni- versity. Bishop Strachan opened the first grammar school at Cornwall and interested himself in secondary schools.
