Hincks arc spending a few days visiting friends in Owen Sound. Wm. is nursing & sore hand with blood poisoning. On Monday of last week at a sawing bee he got his hand jambed with a log and blood poisoning set in. Gn Monday night, Dec. 22, the ann- ual Christmas concert was held In Mackinnon Hall, when it was packed to the doors. Mr. Herb. Mclnnis acr- ed as chairman and presided in a very efficient manner. Rev. R. G. Stewart opened with a brief address on "The spirit of Christmas." A varied pro- gram of recitations, pantomimes, drills, solos, etc., were enjoyed, also choruses by the children. At the close of the program Santa Claus arrived and unloaded a well-laden tree for the boys and girls. A bag of candy and nuts was given to each child. The proceeds were $33. A hearty vote of thanks was given to the teachers, Miss McHugh, Miss Jessie Nichol, and Mr. Shackleton, and any others who assisted in any way. Top Cliff young people also gave a humorous play, which cawed much mirth. M'. S. C. Cooper and M". Alfred Hincks left Monday morning to attend the youn people's convention in Gueiph. Miss Monica Lambert has been staying with Rev. and Mrs. Stewart since school closed, owing to measles at Rev. Sutherland'*. The two little fcoys have been afflicted but a-e re- covering. The marriage of Elsie Georgina, . youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Garbutt of Meaford, Out, and Mr. Charles Lloyd Copeland, Elmvale, Ont, took place on Thurs- day. November 20th, at St. Andrews Presbyterian church, King and Slm- coe street, Toronto. Rev. Dr. Stuart Parker officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father, and wore an attractive porto brown kit- ten's ear cloth coat, trimmed with caracul, and fashioned over a brown and gold trimmed dress, brown and gold suede shoes, and hat and bag to match. After the ceremony the im- mediate relatives were entertained at a wedding breakfast. Mr. and Mrs. Copela*d later left for Bermuda. They will reside at Elmvale, Ont. VICTORIA CORNERS Christmas passed off very quietly in our burg. John Robinson of Hamilton spcn' the holiday at Milton Bannon's. Donald Robinson of Markdale is visitinp his uncle. Milton Bannon. Miss McCannel is to be congratul- ated on the Christmas concert which the scholars gave Tuesday evening. The program rendered by the pupil?, who number eight in all. was well performed and showed <?ood training. We wish to thank Mr. Cooper of Markdale for the pictures shown and Mr. White and family of the Durham Road for the music. Oh, yes! Santa was there with the Christmas tree. Mrs. Stevens received the sad news of the death of her sister, Mrs. Palmer, of Komoka. Mrs. Palmer has been ill for some time. Mrs. Stev- ens visited her this nast fall. Glenn Lcckhart is visiting his sis- ter, Mrs. Bert Rowden, of Clinton for the holidays. Miss Margirerite Stin?on was home from Toronto for Christmas. Last week we mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ludlow installing a radio. This week our pen has a sadder note to write. Mr. Ludlow has not been well for some time, but was around as usual enjoying his Christmas Din- ner on Thursday and on Friday he was about liis chores until about eleven o'clock when he went to the house complaining of a head ache. He soon became alarmingly worse and a doctor was summoned, but he passed away about two o'clock . Mr. Ludlow was of a very bright and jolly disposition. He was a veritable "gloom chaser". No matter how blue you felt when you met him you alawys passed on laughing. He was born sixty-four years ago last Nov- ember, on the farm where Mr. Thos. Wauchope now lives, which is on the Proton sideroad. Here attfl in Pro- ton village he lived all his life until ten years ago, when he and hL< wife always passed on laughing. He was the only son of Mr. Wm. Ludlow, but had six sisters, only two surviving him: Mrs. John Acheson of the ba'.-k- line and Mrs. Geo. Blakely of Proton. Ho. was a member of the Anglican churih at Proton and attended regu- larly. Forty-one years ago he mar- ried Polly Thompson (whose mother had married Mr. Thos. Ludlow, uncle of the present Mr. Ludlow). Thy had only one daughter, Mrs. Ed. Stinson (Ethel) ind one granddaugh- ter. Beth Stinson. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, interment taking ptoce in Flesherton cemetery. Miss Irene Marshall, nurse-in-train- ing at Whitby, is visiting her parents. Ross and J. ; C McMullen, Miss Marguerite Mc- Mullen and Mr. Wyville, all of Toronto. Mr. Stanley McMullen of Toronto spent Christmas day with his father, Mr. Js. L. McMullen. Mrs. Parks and three children of Toronto are spending a fortnight with the former's mother, Mrs. W. Mills. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Piper and three sons spent Christmas with the form- er's mother, Mrs. H. Piper, and Mr. and Mrs. Luther Torrey and son at Lauriston. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stewart and family spent Christmas day with Mr. McMaster and family at Portlaw. Mr. and Mrs. H. Bailey and two daughters of Shrigley and Mr. and Mrs. Ratiey and daughter, Jean, of Toronto spent Christmas with their mother, Mrs. D. McPhail, and sister, Miss Agnes Macphail, M.P. The Christmas season this year has been favored with lovely weather, 1 good sleighing and cars running as ; wall, helped each and everyone to j enjoy that special visit they were to i make on Christmas day. Of course ! 'twas in Santa Claus' favor too, and he did not fail to come on Christmas eve to the delight of the many hot"es where the little folk waited. The Christmas tree entertainment on Tuesday evening was a decided success in every way. A lengthy program of good variety was given, j at the close of which a jolly Santa j arrived to unload a well-laden tree. [ During the evening homemade candy was generously passed around and everyone enioyed a splendid evening. Rev. McAuslan presided. We are pleasd to learn little Mar- ion Hutchinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newt Hutchinson, is recovering from a severe cold. Mr. Jos. Cherry visitpd his Barents in the Kimberley Valley on Sunday. The aged couple are with their daughter, Mr. Geo. Cornfield. Hav- ing had an attack of the flu early in the winter they are only enjoying Lair health. Mr. Stewart McNevin and sister, Miss Elsie, of Toronto are visiting friends here, spending Christmas day with Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wiley and family.
