The softball game between Waxwell and Victoria Comers was won by the former team. Rock Mills won from Kimberley and ^ "* Shrigley defeated the Duncan Orioles. -^ " The football game was a good one with Beversham winning- from Viax-i well. Quite a number took part in the races. The dance at night, with Toronto talent, was well attended.; One thing occurred, however, to mar the day. It is supposed that some one threw away a lighted match or' cigarette stub with the result that Mr. Samuel Grummett's small barn was burned to the ground about 10.00 p.m. We extend our sympathy to Mr. Grummett and might we appeal or insist that all smokers be more careful in putting out matches and destroying cigarette stubs. Mr. and Mrs. George Ross spent the week end at Mr. Ray. Wellar's at Brampton. Miss Ruth HoUingworth of Toronto is the guest of her cousin. Miss Annie Priestly. Miss Millie Coulthard, nurse-in- training, and friend of Durham visited the former's friend. Miss Mary Ross on Sunday. Mis'3 Shirley Buckingham of Dun- dalk is holidaying at her homf> here. The W. I. convention held here on June 21st was well attended. Re- ports all show splendid work among the Institutes. Two branches were not represented. The program con- sisted of solos, duets and instructive papers, which were enjoyed by all. Lunch was served before and after the meeting. A (Last Week's Items) The Proton S. S. Convention was held at Inistioge on Monday, June IS. Despite the rain a goodly number at- tended and two good sessions were en- joyed. Rev. Mr. Guild gave two very instructive addresses. Mrs. Melville Hawes of fright is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Stinson, for a coup- le of weeks. Miss Greenwood, our teacher, was called home on Saturday moring by the sudden death of her mother. We exten our sympathy our sympathy to her in this time of trouble. Mrs. E.
