WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 24. 1926 THE FLESHERTON ADVANCE (' ^m .Spring iinQncing FARMING is one of the most diversified and complicated businesses in tlie world. And, tike all businesses, it cannot progress without sound financing. At tliis time farmers are confronted with many problems which the Bank of Toronto is pleased to help solve. Money will be needed for improving the herd, buying cattle, etc. Loans will be required to meet current expenses. And the Bank of Toronto will be ready to advance all this necessary financial aid to farmers of character and reputation. â- K>J â- ..l,...*.-_^ "mM&IDRONIO BRANCHES: FEVERSHAMâ€" Chas. Smith, Manager. .M ARK DALEâ€" W, L. YOUNG, Manager. 225 r All that stands between us and a' hot time is the rest of this winter. Working too hard is about as bad in the long run as loafing too hard. Henry Winnett, proprietor of the Queen's Hotel, Toronto, at at one time owner of the Tecumseh House, London, is dead in his 80th year. A "young Englishman broke the bank of Monte Carlo, with winnings of $250,000, and the news is cabled round the world. But, if he had Markdaie Won Here ' on Friday Night 2-1 The Marl/iale Redmen beat the local team in a hard fought and well played game here on Friday night by a 2 â€" 1 score. The match was clean and fast, and turned out to be a thriller, with play being very close as the score Indicates. White, in the Markdaie netfe, was the stumbling block between victory and djfeat. Time after time the locals swept in upon him, -only to have the shot turned aside. SJullivan scored in the last minute of the opening period when he stickhandled through the whole team to beat Akins with a wicked drive. Scoreâ€" Markdaie 1; Flesherton 0. The locals opened up in the second period but were unable to beat Wiiite or else missed the posts by inches. Markdaie came back strong however and layed the puck right on the nets. Midway through the stanza English broke through and when checked by Akins, slipped tSie puck across to Sullivan, who drove it across to Sullivan, who made no mis- take. Scoreâ€" Markddc 2, Flesherton, 0. The last period was a repetition of the first two, the locals had trouble in netting the puck against White. McTavish scored on a solo rush, and was unfortunate in not getting sev- eral more. However, 'twas a good game, and both teams left the ice in the best of spirits. Mike Henry * handled the bell to the entire satis- faction of everyone. Herb Betts led some nice rushes,, reveral times being right on top of I the goal. Markdaie ig tp be complimented j on the success of their hockey team. Handicapped by the lack of suitable ice at home, they play \Sne game, and are a credit to the sport. The high school girls' hockey team and the local "Old Boys." are play- ing in Durham to-night. We note that the Dundalk rink, has been condemmed as being un- safe for use. The locals have 'demm- ed it long before the provincial auth- orities thought about it. CONDEMNED DUNDALK RINK Dundalk skating rink is closed as a result of condemnation on the part of the provincial authorities. Wednes day night was the last skating night. The roof is unsafe, the authorities claim, and the public must be pro- tected. It is not definitely known just what the prop'rietors, Messrs Montgomery will do, or whether necessary repair^ will be made this year before the skating season clos- es. An open air rink is being pre- pared by E. Black. 'No." "Five hundred thousand?" which I thought would settle the business, but he continued to say "No." I gave it up, and confe88?d I could not tell, and begged he would inform I me.
