Met Mr. Drury The Advance had the pleasure on Friday last of making one "f the delega- tioti that Waited un Premier Drury in Toronto in the interests of Hydro Electric. The object of the convening af IJOO delegates was to petition for tha appointment of Sir Adnm Beck as chairman for a period of six years or more, and a representation on the Board by the interested municipalities. Hon. Mr. Drury expressed a deep interest in hydro and was eytremly sympathetic in his reception of the delegation. He would like to see the cunent supplied to everybody. There were two things which partic- ularly struck The Advance man with regard to the Premier. One was hie extreme youthfulness and the other his very euurteoiis dumeanor and easy and correct handling of the King's English. He may not be au orator, but neither is his vocabulary a narrow ooe. He ia a pleasing speaker and a sympthetia listener, as the ladies have already dis- coverad, judging by his apology on Friday last for being so long detained by a feminine delegation whom, ha saitf, "had mora to say than he thought they had!" We doubt if there was a single man on that delegation who was not more than favorably impresied by Mr. Drury's altitude and satisfied that his ideals and ambitions wtro along the right lines. Also that he has a level head and :f allowec" to oairy out these idsals and ambitions will prove tho wisdom of the people in giving him his opportunity, On Friday of last week no less than three accidents happened in the factories at Walkortou. Lawrence Hesch bad a quarter inch stick drove clean through hii left band while working at the Knechtel factory. John Flewelling had a hold bored in his left hand with a rimming machine at the Bobbin factory and Fred Goodwin of tha Rattan factory had some g'ass so deeply («inbedded in his left hand that he had to have the services of a doctor to have it taken out. Two Biant men were up before the m Bgistrate at Walkerton last week charged with clipping the main and tai oli' a horse belonging to Jim Rogers of Maple Hill. Both parties plaaded guilty and were fined. A contingent of thirty woundsd and crippled veterans fram the Great VVar will, commencing with January next take up residence for six months in Walkerton, where thay will be taught raed work at the liattsn Factoiy hers, under the tuition of Mr. J. Ferguson, a returned soldier, who has been commis- sioned by the Government to initruct tham in this work. This is part of the Government's vocational training pro- gram in an effort to fit the ex-warriors for civilian life again. â€" Bruce Herrld and Times.
