The task of deleriiiining the boundary line between Ungava. now a portion of the Province ot Quebec, and that part of the Labrador coast belonging to Newfoundland, may be referred to the judicial conunittee of the Imperial Privy Council very shortly. Since Ungava was added to Quebec in 1912 the Government of that province has been anxious that the line between its territory and that of the ancient colony should bo defined. Several practical i.-iSii-'.«, moreover, have arisen to make a de- cision desirable. For instance, the Canadian and Newfoundland Govern- ments clashed when a Canadian cus- toms officer proposed to collect du- ties at Port Burwell, which he assert- p] ed was Canadian territory. Again, 'j] the Quebec and Newfoundland auth- , Uj i orities differed when the latter tin- ' Oi concessions on I 1! I Sideboards. Call and see them. dertook to grant concessions on [Si Hamilton Inlet. yl For some years past there have ill been at intervals negotiations be- W tween the Dominion Government and ^ w the Quebec Government on the one 'â-  '!ss7, hand and the Newfoundland Govern- I ment on the other looking to a refer- j ^ ence ot the case to the Privy Council. { Canada and Quebec propo-sed that a j i question based upon Itie statutos, I orders-in-council, and proclamations I upon which were founded the respec- â-  tlve claims of the panios should be i propounded for the consideration of j the Imperial court. Newfoundland ' expressed the opinion that no orders- in-council existed which could be evi- 1 dence of a claim. Copies of certain ' orders were thereupon sent from W I Canada to the Government ot the an- ! eient colony. Negotiations have W. H. BUNT Flcshcrton, Ont. since then been suspended. Quebec j however, is now pressing for a settle- ment of the dispute, and. it is said, I that if a reply is not received within I a reasonable time from Newfound- land will join with the Dominion ot Canada in submitting the whole question to the Privy l?ouncil. The western and southern limit ot the Newfoundland terriior.v has been fixed at 6 4 degrees west longi- tude and 52 degrees north latitude. From that point is to be run north- ward a line which, according to the Newfoundland claim, would give tho Dominion a strip of coast all the way north to Hudson Strait, but which, in the Canadian and Quebec view, would reach the soa shore at a much more southerly point. The docu- ments in the case go as far back as the proclamation of tho King of Great .Britain, dated Oct. 7. 1763, which first set forth the boundaries of Quebec. Chief Jus- tice ot Quebec, at a luncheon given in his honor by fellow-Canadians told this one: In the Country Club at Ottawa there was a woman who assisted the cook by peeling pota- toes. She had a son who was al the front. For extraordinary gallantry he was personally dt<corated by Kins George with the Military Cross. A self-appointed committee of women members of the club wont out into the kitchen to inform the mother ot the event and to congrumlate her upon her son's valor. 'Isn't it won- derful!" said one of them. "Three times your son went out into No Man's Land under heavy fire and brought in wounded men." The answer ot the mother shows that In Canada they seem to take heroism very much tor granted. "I always knew Jimmy had a strong back, " she remarked, and resumed her task of peeling the potatoes.
