The Markdale Standard asks why it was that the local press did not advertise the due of their fall show. So far as this paper is concerned the reason was this: The Markdale fair was not in the list of dates issued by the government, from which we copied our list, and ihe directors of that society were remiss in not s'upplyinB the heal press with their date. They did not even send a prize list, and the date of their fair was not known in this office niiril less than a week befi'i-e the event. If the direutors of the Markdale fair do not think it worth while to supply the local papers with a copy of their prize list or to acquaint them in some way with the dare, surely it ia not worth while for the local papers to bother them- selves writinu for it. Soino months ago a bantam hen in town brought out and raised a sijitary chicken. Ill the course of time she considered that the chick was old enough to look after itself and so started lo lay again and in a few weeks hatched out eleven . little chicks. During the process of incubation, the tirst chicken hatched on the eggs with the mother, never leaving the nest except for feed. Although the last brood aro now several weeks old, the first chick remains all the time with the flock, covering her share along wi*,h the mother. When feed is given it calls the sninller chickens the same as the mother does, and in many ways shows a siroiig filial affection for all the members of the family. â€" Fergus News Record.
