THE ADVANCE. .R- Fawcett. Editor. FLESHERTON: THURSDAY, DEC. 11, 1884. "WHY NOT FLESHERTON ?" The Fleshertou Advance makes a feeble attempt to represent that village, i more convenient point forThornbury merchants to reach, in bringing freight over the L.I'.]:, than Markdalc. The editor should remember that it is a point on the C. P. R. Thornbury wishes to reach ; and furthermore, if there is any truth in the statements contained 111 various articles which has appeared in "the Advance, urging the township to construct a passable road from Flesher- too to the railway station, we would naturally conclude that the Advance simply advocates the road via Flesher- tou to reach Markdale. We can sec no great obstacle in the way of Thorn- hory people reaching this station direct there being but one hill of any account, aud it is not absolutely necessary to travel even that hill to reach this vill- age. Every necessary convenience and accomodation will be provided nt Mai-kdale hi the handling of freight, &c., should the Thornbury people de- oidc on the proposed change. Mark- ilak St<i*J<irJ. Our cotem. in apparently much ann- oyed becausr we have been guilty of the in its eyes heinous offence of suggesting a more practicable route than the one originated by itself. It calls ours a "feeble attempt" to repre- sent Flcsherton "a more convenient |K>int for Thorubury mercliai.U to reach iu bringing freight over the C. P. R. than Markdale." Any unanswerable argument advanced l>y us is usually characterized by the Sttvuiard as "feeble." However, let .h;it pass. Our cotcm. further says, it is not absolutely necessary to travel i-vtn that hill (on G A 7 side road) to reacli this village." Correct you are, brother; but if you don't "travel even that hill, "you must necessarily adopt h worse route; for, to reach Markdale in any other way, you have not one bad lull to travel but ninny. You can grab whichever horn of the dilemma you choose ; its none of our funeral. EAST GUEY CONSERVATIVE MEETING. ADVANCE : " We made a mistake last week in saying that only three papers in Grey have taken an ont-and-out stand on the Scott Act question : there are four, viz., the two Durham papers, tho Meaford Monitor and the Advance." Will the Advance kindly inform us from what source he got the information that the Monitor has taken an "out-and-out" stand on Scott Act question ? Hud the Advance said the Monitor has taken an "out-und- in" stand, or is astride the fence," he would have been nearer the murk. Ufa ford Mirror. We got our information from the Monitor itself. Where else, under the sun, would we get it ? Did you imagine we get it from the emperor of Claim or (juecn Victoria?
