On Saturday last a number of Markdale boys, from 10 to 15 years of age, took it in their head to go camping and took along shooting irons with other camping outfit. They camped near the stream west of the railway station. In the afternoon Tom Corner, a lad of 11 years, whose parents live at Rockwood, and who has been spending a few weeks with his aunt, Mrs. Fred Sarjeant, went to the camp, and as the boys were amusing themselves shooting with a breechloader he wanted to try a shot: Geo. Dundas, a lad of 10 years, was putting in a charge when Corner came up and the hammer slipped and the gun discharged striking Corner in the face. With great presence of mind he made all possible speed for home, about half a mile distant, and when about half way met with men who carried him to Dr. Sproule's surgery and it was found that the bullet has struck the left cheek breaking the upper jaw bone and glancing down taking out a tooth and lodging in the neck close to the jugular vein. The boy is recovering, thought he bullet still remains in his neck. it is to be hoped that it may be safely extracted when the swelling is gone.
