Generals defeated Rangers 6-4 ore a crowd of 3,007 in an intario. Hockey Association Jun- for 'A' game, which was in doubt until 19:48 of the final period. This was the first victory for Generals in their last- 'four games and boosted them to within four points of third-place Peterborough Petes. Oshawa ean cut the margin in half with a win over Petes at the Peter- borough Memorial Centre on Sunday afternoon. i Generals' next home game is Leads Oshawa To Win Over Kitchener son, an affiliate of the Flyers. This deal was also made with a re- purchase _ condition Bu- chanan played another strong ame, despite getting some lumps from Kitchener's de- fence. . .There doesn't seem to be any indication when Danny O'Shea, captain of Generals, will Niagara Falls Defeat Petes By THE CANADIAN PRESS If 1965 continues as well as it started for Ron Buchanan, it could be quite a year for the Oshawa General forward. Buchanan didn't score any goals Friday night as the Gen- erals nipped Kitchener Rangers 6-4 in Ontario Hockey Associ- ation Junior A series action, but he did manage two assists. It brought his consecutive-game points-scoring streak to 12. Oshawa's win left. them in fourth place in the eight-team league with 32 points, but they pulled to within four points of Peterborough Petes, 3-1 losers to second - place Niagara Falls Flyers at Niagara Falls. In other league action Fr'- day, Montreal Junior Canadiens edged St. Catharines Black Hawks 4-3 in St. Catharines and league - leading Toronto Marlboros dropped Hamilton Red Wings 7-3 in Toronto. Campbell SPORTS EDITOR 'Everything From Soup To Nuts' KITCHENER RANGERS gave over 3,000 Oshawa fans some real thrills here at the Civic Auditorium last night, as twice they came from behind to knot the count. Generals built up a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of play. Oshawa got their first one in 26 seconds and the next before the two-minute mark but the visitors got one of these back and then scored in the first minute of the second stanza to tie it up. Jim Booth's 'goal, less than a minute later, put the Generals back in front but again Kitchener tied it up. However, the homesters had enough sus- tained drive and scoring success to earn their win, in a game that produced quite a little '"'chippy action", resulting in penal- ties for high-sticking, cross-checking, butt-ending, charging ¢nd one out-and-out scrap. The win enabled Generals to snap their losing streak which had grown to a three-game length. It also helped Oshawa stay six points ahead of the surging Montreal Jr. Canadiens (they have three games. in hand) who last night won right in St. Catharines, 4-3. Marlies won at home over Hamilton, 7-3 but those pesky "Petes" (they also have three games in hand) lost in Niagara Falls 3-1. At home, "Petes" have only lost once this season, their opener to Marlies. They won 11 and tied twice in their last 13 "home" games. x x x x GENERALS almost had to start the New Year out, just the way they ended the old one -- by playing a hockey game. Last night's game with Kitchener Rangers was to have been followed, in the original schedule, by a game tonight in the Liftlock CityHowever, the management of the 'Petes', some weeks ago, decided to take advantage of their acquired "Sun- day sports" liberties, so they had their Oshawa game postponed until tomorrow. The change in schedule gives the Generals 'a better rest -- after their tussle with Kitchener last night, having had to make a trip to Peterborough tonight, wouldn't have exactly been any picnic. The local lads are still going to be busy enough as 1965 is launched. They are at home again on Tuesday night and this time the visitors will be none other than the Niagara Falls Flyers. No doubt the older fans will be on hand to give "'Hap'"' Emms a rousing wel- come! x x x x REMEMBER WHEN the Barrie Flyers used to visit Oshawa Arena? Now there was an event that was always good for special action. Like the rest of us, no doubt "Hap' Emms has mellowed a little and probably doesn't display the. fiery enthus- jasm that was so characteristic of this capable mentor. The manager-coach and owner of the Flyers has enjoyed some rare success in his career in OHA Junior "A" ranks. Some of those Barrie teams of yesteryears did then and still, rate with the best to win a Memorial Cup. They had their stars, they had their "'types" and they had some teen-age hockey performers who had color galore. The result was that when Barrie Flyers came to play the Generals, the Oshawa fans turned out en masse to see the action. Niagara Falls have some of the same kind of players -- what else? With "Hap" Emms doing the selecting, this part of a coach's pattern rarely changes. When Marlboros took two points out of the Civic Auditorium last Tuesday night, it no doubt gave the Niagara Falls Flyers some ideas. Currently in second place, they'll be out to knock off the Generals here, in order to stay in the running for that top rung. It's to be hoped that both clubs come out of their week-end action in healthy condition -- Tuesday night's tilt should prove another ding-dong battle! goal for Holy Cross.
