The Russell Bantams softball team travelled to Metcalfe on Tuesday, May 25 to open their 1977 season, due to a mix-up in scheduling we arrived 1% hrs. early, but it seems this delay did the boys no harm. Another set back forced Metcalfe to forfeit the league game when their umpire failed to show for the game by 8:45 p.m. The boys after all this decided to play an exhibition game. Russell had first bat and came up with 3 runs, 1st by T. Harrison, 2nd by S. Cherry, 3rd by G. McLaren. The inning ended when B. Pawchuck was put out at first base leaving Russell with one man on base. Metcalfe's first batter T. Herr made it to 3rd base before B. McLaren, pitcher for Russell, managed to strike out three in a row. 2nd inning saw Russell strike out 3 in a row by Metcalfe's pitcher S. Corylon. It looked at this point it might be a close game. Metcalfe's turn to Russell Review Minor Ball ussell Bantam Opens bat saw them go down 3 in a row as Greg appeared to show he had still retained his old form from last year. 3rd inning -- Russell's first two batters struck out, then they turned on their fire and to collect 7 runs before Metcalfe finally got the 3rd man out. Metcalfe managed a man on 3rd base and 2nd base before Russell put three men away. 4th inning -- Brought Russell up one more run on a home run by G. McLaren. Metcalfe were still unsucessfull in the fourth inning only managing to get a man to 3rd base before three men were counted out by T. McLaren who relieved his brother at the mound for Russell. 5th inning saw Russell acquire 16 runs to walk away with the ball game 27-0.
