Dwight Dillabough, son of Mrs. Ray Dillabough and the late Ray Dillabough of Morewood died Farm News and Views Tuesday, February 17th, saw the official opening of the Department of Agriculture and Food extension office which has recently moved from Rockland to a more Central location in the Industrial Park between Russell and Embrun. Mr. Felix Millette, our local Agriculture representative, was host at the reception and luncheon in Embrun that was attended by about 55 representat- ives of the various Agricultural Organizations in the County. The intended guest of honour, Mr. W. Newman, Minister of Agriculture for the Province of Ontario was prevented from attending by the inclement weather conditions that prevailed in the morning. He was, however, ably represented by our M.P.P. Mr. Albert Belanger who addressed the gathering at the luncheon and at 2 o'clock cut the ribbon and declared the building officially open. Roughly 225 people toured the premises and enjoyed the sandwiches and coffee provided by the Womens Institute during the open house that followed. Everyone was greatly impressed by the quality and layout of the building which should serve the farmers in Russell for many years to come. Mr. P. E. Trudeau gave us some indication of how important he considers the business of farming and the power that farmers have -- remember last fall when he insulted the farming community by refusing to open the International Plowing Match, cancelled out on one hours notice because there were two farmers from Rhodesia plowing there, and he said that by opening the Plowing Match it would seem that Canada was sanctioning the way that Rhodesia treats her black population. Whereas a weekend in Cuba, hobnobbing with his friend Fidel and shouting Viva this and Viva that means nothing at all. One wishes that this respect for the influence and power of Agriculture would carry over into his economic policies. Seems there is a certain lady on one of the concessions who is such a fast driver, the O.P.P. gave her a season ticket. Peter Romme suddenly at Midland.
