Financial sponsorship is provided by Heritage Canada The discovery of a scrapbook of business documents and personal letters, sitting unread in my family's homes for over 100 years, introduced me to a previously unknown relative: Samuel Frederick Scott. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1847, he sailed with his family across the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans for 20 years. His biography, drawn from transcriptions of the documents, supplemented by online research, describes wrecks, storms, mutinies, family tragedies and even a confrontation with a Chilean warship in 1891. He turned to mining for gold near Princeton, British Columbia in the 1890s. He lost his life in the Columbia River in 1905. Captain Scott's Scrapbook is the story of unravelling the truth and fiction to discover and write about his persistence and resilience, overcoming challenges while remaining, by all accounts, a genial companion and masterful storyteller. A short video is available on YouTube: Captain Scott's Scrapbook. Sample pages can be read on Indigo Books and Google Books Local Author Publishes Story of Captain Scott by Margot Dixon websites. Hardcover, softcover and ebooks are available from Freisen Press Book Store, Indigo Books and Amazon. Google Captain Scott's Scrapbook.
