DA'S AFLOAT, AND IT'S FUN! Canada, with more than half the globe's fresh water to play in, has become' the world's boat- ingest nation. Today, one of every twenty Canadians is a small boat owner. What has brought about this boom? The fuller possibilities for travel and leisure offered by the forty-hour week, now pretty well universal, are just being realized. Families are beginning to find out how much can be done and how far they can go between Friday at five and Monday at nine. Improvements toward lighter and speedier hulls and engines, particularly outboards, have made the pastime more attractive to more people. Today's equipment is lighter and speedier. To keep pace with the boating boom, trailer manufacturers have produced better boat trailers, so that many different waterways may be reached in one season. The fact that boating is a family sport has provided great impetus to the boom, and many' families have chosen pleasure craft in place of a summer cottage. Far better, they say, to move around and see more of the country from the water than to spend all summer on the same lake no matter how pleasant it may be. The following pages will give some tips on buying a boat and where to take it once it is yours. i ----------
