The Wanderers took all four points Ajax truly solidified their posi- tion at the top of the Ontario Rugger Union Seaway League, when the University of Toronto Varsity XV were trounced 32-3 on their own Back Campus ground last Saturday. Through a misunderstanding, the previous Saturday's game scheduled against Toronto Scot- tish was cancelled, but Ajax were given the points due to the fact that a team was ready to travel to Toronto when the cancellation was made. Ajax therefore auto- matically received a 10-0 default- ed win. The Ajax-Varsity game started with both teams looking very cap- able until Ajax top scorer, Tommy Farquharson, crossed the Varsity line for a try, after a fire break-through run. The try was converted by Attley with the score 5-0. Another good move- ment by the fast Ajax backs gave Bob Fawcett an opportun- Ajax Rugger Squad Trounces Varsity 32-3 ity which he made full use of, and touched down between the {posts. Attley again converted to make the score 10-0. Minutes lat-| er, Ajax forwards led by Norm| Keeton and John Collins, took the ball well into the Varsity half, and Gord Shaw on the wing ably assisted by Bob Fawcett broke through for another good try, {right at the corner flag. The tally was now 13.0 as Shaw's try was unconverted, but three minutes from half-time, Farquharson again went through to score after an Ajax three-quarter movement |which was beautiful to watch. {Full back John Evans converted {to bring the score at half-time to] It was unfortunate for Ajax that in the opening minutes of the sec- ond half, Ajax were penalized for an off-side and the kick was clear between the posts by the Varsity skipper. Ajax however could not be checked fir long, as the very fast Ray Gilchrist, sped through the |son, again ran right through the bewildered Varsity defence for a fine unconverted try. At 21-3, the Ajax forwards again pressed the Varsity pack well back into the latter squads' half and got the ball out to the backs for Gilchrist to go over the line again for a try which Taylor converted with a long kick.
