To everyone who sent sympathy cards, mass cards, baking or donations to the Heart Fund to me personally, thank you. Also the people who came to pay their respects. Special thank you to Dr. McCausland and Dr. Adey for their kindness and help towards me. - j : To Mr. and Mrs. Hartly McKay, Mr. and Mrs. Borden Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Howell, and Mrs. Dennis Neylon for their helping hand. GUIDERS ACHIEVE HIGHEST AWARD The 20th Annual Mother and Daughter Guide and Brownie Banquet was held at the Legion Hall on Thursday, February 2Ist. Master of Ceremonies, Mrs. R. McBride wel- comed everyone to this most successful event. The color party presented the colors and "O Canada" was sung. Toast to the Queen was given by Joanne McBride. Heather Nugent gave the Toast to Lady Baden-Powell, Rhonda Miller gave the Toast to the Mothers and replied to by her mother, Mrs. Miller. The Blessing was said by Rev. McKague and "Johnny Appleseed" was sung by everyone. A smorgasbord pot luck supper was gener- ously set up and served by Mrs. Stella Gusul and her committee of the Local Legion. The variety, quantity and quality of foods was a compliment to.the good job Mrs. B. Wise and her committee had done in organizing the del- icious supper. Tea, coffee, chocolate milk, ice cream and squares were generously suppli- ed by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Legion. During the presentations, Brownies Carol Moore and Jackie Rogers were surprized when they were chosen to win the Brownies of the Year Award. Last years Guide of the Year presented that award to Guide Lois Caron. Hazel Howarth and Connie Cvitkovich pre- sented Isle Smith with the All Round Card. The highest award given to Guides is the Canada Card. Mrs. H. Howarth and Mrs. C. Ccvitkovich were very proud to present these to three of our girls, Sheena Caldwell, Diane Jones and Carla Crockford. Each girl was presented with a long stemmed red carnation and a gift from the Local Association. The girls mothers were also presented with a gcor- sage. Theresa Ramsay received her award pin as Lieutenant. Mrs. M. Saranpaa received her IO year long service bar and certificate. Mrs. C. Cvitkovich received her Green Tree and Green Lanyard which qualifies her to take Guides on camping trips. Mrs. E. Ramsay presented Mrs. Hazel How- arth with a gift on her retirement as Division Commissioner. For entertainment Mrs. Saranpaa's First Brownie Pack choir sang songs led by "Mistro Long String Macaroni" Annita Laitinen. Mrs. M. McBride's Second Brownie Pack presented action songs led by Mona Dakin. The Guides concluded the entertainment with campfire songs led by Mrs. C. Cvitkovich. The colors were retired and Brownie and Guide Taps were sung ending a very enjoyable evening. Our sincere thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary . Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, for their generosity and thoughtfulness which made our 'Banquet possible and a great success. - Be sure to see the photo page 24 SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. BONFIGLI The funeral of the late Mrs. Dominic Bon- figli, whose death occurred in hospital in Wawa on February I3th were conducted on Feb- ruary I6, in Holy Angel's Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber by Rev. F.J. Meyer. Pall bearers were Bruno Lorenzetti (grand- son), Roly Stortini, Mel Nicol, Elton Fummer- ton, John Falzetta and Yvon Beauparlant. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mrs. Bonfigli was predeceased by her hus- band in I958. Her immediate survivors are two daughters - Violet, Mrs. Peter Lorenzetti, of White River; and Louise, Mrs. Emmett Holl- and, Schreiber. -There are also eight grand- children and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Bonfiglio, who was 89 years old, was born and lived in Italy until she came to Canada to rejoin her husband who had found em- ployment in Jackfish. They remained there un- til Mr. Bonfigli's retirement when they moved to Schreiber and lived here for 25 years. Mrs. Bonfigli lived with her daughter, Mrs. Holland, for some years. After spending a year in Lakehead Hospital she went to White River and lived with Mrs. Lorenzetti until she was taken ill. The funeral was largely continued page 24 ...... # 3
