pa Se by Mrs. Earl Reader ®% Mr. and Mrs. Alan Carter were pleased to have visitors from Holland for ten days. They were people they had met'when they attended the soldiers reunion in Holland. They entertained these friends by showing them interesting scenery different from Holland, and this included the Gaspe. Carters also had company from Ari- zona. But this all helped Alan forget his discomfort from a walking cast required from the result of an anvil which dropped on his foot. Mrs. Sandra Boos and her two young daughters have returned to their Vancouver home after spending four weeks at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fralick. The Grace U.C.W. will start their fall meetings Wed. Sept. 3 at the home of Mrs. Elsie Pogue. It will take the form of a Pot Luck 'neon luncheon. All ladies in the area are welcome. The Grace U.C.W. had a very successful Bake Sale in the old Centre School yard on a Friday afternoon in August and wish to thank all who helped in spite of some showers. The summer hasn't been all sunshine for Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Love. First, Grace broke a bone in her right hand while bowling. Then a week later Cliff had a catar- act operation. After return- ing home, he suffered a set back and had to return to Port Perry Hospital but ex- pects to be able to go home the early part of this week. We trust there will be contin- ued improvement for all. Mrs. Dorothy Jeffrey from the foot of the Island return- 'ed from a Toronto Hospital last Thursday after the removal of one kidney. Tho' she is now feeling physically fine, she is able to continue her own treatment with new, light equipment which excells the former awkward and expensive equipment used in hospitals. We are so glad to hear that this is possible and will allow a person to continue a fairly normal life. We think of you, Dorothy, and wish the best for you and your family. On Thursday evening Sept. 4 between 7 and 9 p.m. there will be an official registra- tion at the Island Hall for Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. If the parents would like to stay and join in the plans and organization they will be welcome. Meetings will start the following week. Please remember the big day at Sunrise Beach on Saturday, Sept. 13. Hope you are saving items for the flea market. There was a very good return attendance at the Island Church. 1 believe everyone was glad to see neighbours again as the chatting continued for quite awhile after the service. In the afternoon on Sun- day, Rev. Clarke returned to the Island Church for a baptism which had been planned for several weeks. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wed., August 27, 1980 -- 31 When Chris and Lana Zyla, a niece of Mr. Jim Adam of Port View Beach, had decid- ed to bring their little daugh- ter, Brendan from their home in Calgary to be bap- tized in a little country church among friends and relatives, accordingly 28 people from Calgary, Ottawa Toronto, and Scugog attend- ed the service. This included two sets of grandparents, and one couple of great Scugog Island and area news grandparents. The guests were deeply impressed with the service and a compari- son of a country church with a large city church. Before the day was over, 40 people had gathered at the home of Jim and Doreen Adam to enjoy a reunion upon this special occasion. tho' the rest of us in the church were not able to be with them, our thoughts are with them and we extend congratulations . and wishes for happiness.
