A new way to detect Unemployment Insurance i Most people getting unem- ployment insurance play by the rules. But some people don't seem to know that they can't take a job and collect benefits without telling us they're working. That's why employers are being asked to send us the starting date and Social Insurance Number or extracts from computer payroll tapes for each employee they hire or rehire. This information 1s cross- checked with the Social Insurance Numbers of people receiving unemployment insurance benefits. Only cases of potential abuse will ever surface. After inves- tigation, anyone found receiving benefits to which they are not entitled will have to repay them. It may be an honest mistake. When a teammate came in for a drink later in the contest Hendy growled at him "What do you think this is a watering trough?" The questionable liquid had another effect on Hen- derson. The CHUM announ- cer at-ringside, after Dave Ballingall had pitched himself into a jam, said 'The bases are loaded and so is Henderson." Ballingall engaged in a few humorous antics himself. His first pitch in the sixth inning was a grapefruit thrown to Rick Jones. In the fourth he took on Henderson in a verbal battle of wits. Henderson claimed he had been reformed, and was now a good person. This promp- ted Ballingall to ask then "why didn't you come with a clean uniform?". The reply from the man, who earlier had been involved in a wrest- ling match with Clive Boyd, was "I did but one of your smutty players rolled me around in the dirt." In the seventh inning after Ballingall got into some more trouble the large sportsman came out to help his buddy, bringing along the magic substance. 'I've got to talk to Dave," he said, "if we can 't beat 'em we'll Join 'em.' After the game the CHUM ~ team was presented with the trophy which goes to the winner each year. It goes to the team with the most "baseball prowess' accord- ing to the inscription. Whitby by Alf Huggins On Monday July 14, the Port Perry Lions team played one of their better games in the Whitby House League by defeating the first place and undefeated Van Hoof Construction team by a score of 3-2. The game started out fast with both goalies having to make great saves. The Whitby team scored first with Ian Hopkins scoring set up by Paul Keyes. Port came back to tie on a free kick taken by Dave Lynde headed in by Rob Huggins. The Whitby team took the lead just before half time when Bobbie MacArthur raced in all alone to lift a lob shot over Port goalie Alfie Huggins to score. In the second half the Lions roared to the attack time again only to be stopped by whitby goalie Dave Hopkins. Final- ly half way through the half Dave Lynde scored on a drop pass from rob Huggins to tie the game again. With just a few minutes left in the game, the Lions took the lead on a goal by Ralph Grander with passes from Rob Huggins and Dave Lynde. The Lions' next home game is on August 18 at the Port Perry High School field. CONSTRUCTION SPECIALS - FOR PORT PERRY L.G.A.
