A card and photo of John was sent to Mr. Churchill informing him of this fact. In return John re- ceived a letter in Mr. Churchill's handwriting, 'I am so much obligated to you for your very kind token and good wishes on my birthday. Winston Churchill." On the afternoon of December 26th, 1954, Mr. and Mrs. L.D. At the Annual Provincial Junior Farmers' Conven- tion held in the King Edward Hotel on January 9th, the Ontario County Junior Farmer Male Quartet won the male quartet competition. The members were: Walter Kerry, Port Perry, No.1; George Mahaffy, Port Perry, Hugh Baird, Blackwater, No. 2; Ross Risebrough, Uxbridge, No. 1. 15 YEARS AGO Thursday, January 14, 1965 The following council members were sworn in at the 1965 Inaugural meeting of the Port Perry Council: Ivan Parkinson, councillor; Arthur Cox, chairman of Port Perry H.E.C.; Bruce Beare, councillor; Irving Boyd, deputy-reeve; J.J. Gibson, reeve and candidate for this year's County Wardenship; John F. Raines, clerk-treasurer; and Robert Kenny, councillor. Three purebred Holsteins from farmers in the area were among 55 shipped by jet plane to Italy on January 4th. This is tHg first time that an entire jet has been used for shipment of cattle. The farmers supplying Holsteins were Hugh Ormiston, Brooklin; T. Robert Flett, Oshawa; and Harold A. Werry & Son, R.R.1, Oshawa. Mrs. H. Holtby and daughter Patsy, Prince Albert, enjoyed a plane trip to New Jersey, U.S.A. to visit friends. Successful graduates of the Electric Heating Asso- ciation Course from Port Perry, Blackstock and Downs- view, received their certificates from C.E. Crease, Ontario Hydro's Central Region Consumer Service Engineer. Congratulations to the following ladies who won first prize at a Curling Bonspiel in Cannington on Mon- day - Skip, Mrs. Gerald Hunter; Mrs. Lorne Blakely; Mrs. Harold Howsam; and Mrs. Glen Smith. 10 YEARS AGO Thursday, January 15, 1970 A host of friends and relatives gathered at the Caesarea Community Hall on January 10, 1970 for a dinner party given in honour of Loleta and Harold Jud- son, to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. They were married in Toronto on January 10th, 1920 by Rev. Cody. The couple have ten children.
