DRUGS room there the last election are expected to do the same. When the Liberals meet Thursday night in Bowman- ville, veteran Toronto M.P. Bob Kaplan will be the guest speaker. There had been some speculation that Dr. Ian Wilson would again seek the nomination in Durham- Northumberland for the _Liberals. He placed second in the race last May, well back of Mr. Lawrence. But the Cobourg surgeon cited personal and professional reasons for declining the party nomination this time around. He will, however, work as campaign co-chair- man during this election. Local organizers for the NDP say that Mr. McLaugh- lin will wage an aggressive campaign this time around, and the party will probably double its campaing spend- ing over last May's figure of about $10,000. Starting January 14, Mr. Mclaughlin is expected to take a leave of absence from the Markham school where he teaches geography to work on the campaign full- time leading up to the election February 18. Kawartha Conservation Authority first meeting The inaugural meeting on the newly formed Kawartha Conservation Authority will be held February 6 in Lindsay. Formal approval of the establishment of the Authority was granted recently by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and natural resources minister James Auld will be present to chair the first meeting next month. Kawartha was formed last summer when voting delegates from 19 municipal- ities, including Durham Region finally agreed that this environmentally important part of southern Ontario should come under the jurisdiction of a conservation authority. Votes on two previous occasions to establish an authority failed to get the required majority from the municipalities concerned. The new authority will cover approximately 2565 square miles, including all of Lake Scugog and the Scugog River, Sturgeon Lake, Pigeon River, Cameron Lake _and the western boundary of Balsam Lake. The February 6 meeting will get underway at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the main auditorium of the Ontario government building on Kent Street, Lindsay.
