The. first game was a walkgver for the Business Men, While Simcoe Heights secured enough counters to win any ordinary game their,oppon- ents hammered the 0 hard . par- tienlarly in the last frame when they pushed across nine counters. The line-ups were: . Business Men---Alger, Chisholm, Driscoll, Dobson, Ormiston, Rae/ Sheridan, Whinfield and Kelso. : 'Bimcoe Heights--Dafore, Cole, L. LEGIATE SEMI-FINALS Bowmanville' High School furnish. ed a sarprise on Saturday afternoon when they defeated Oshawa at the Whitby Arena in the play-off for the championship of this distriet of the Central Ontario Intercollegiate Hoe- key League. The final score was 4 | to 1. Although the Oshawa students | outplayed their opponents at every | stage, having about ten shots to Bowmanville's 'one, James, the win- ners' net guardian, looked just about geod enough to hold a position with some professional squad. He: was the real factor in Bowmanville's suc- stopping everything that came neay the goal and putting up one of the hest exhibitions of goalkeeping een in this loeality this season. Time after time the Oshawa for wards broke through but they conld not find an opening. They excelled in stickwork. combination and in skating and their defeat can be at- tributed to just plain hard luck. Osh. wa was conceded to have an easy although they were play- ug in wp form they failed to score but once. Bowmanville will now enter the semi-finals and play with the winner of the Peterboro-Belle- ville series. The line-ups were:-- Oshawa -- Goal, R. Clgrke; de- fence. Bouckley and Wilson: <en- tre. This is National Smile Week in the United States, and the following poem is therefore apropos: 1 ial with By far the.inost. exciting game played in the Bunday School hockey league was staged last night, when St. Gregory's seniors clashed with the, Presbyterians, the former win- ning by a score of 2 to 1, after a strenuous contest. rom the stand. point of good, fgst hockey, it was the equal of any junior OH.A fixture staged in Oshawa this year, and the spectators were loud in their praises at Lhe. showing made by the two teams. 'That 'the winners were ijghtly superior was quite apparent but their opponents presented' a strong line-up which was composed of hard checkers and fast skaters, making the Gold Bands step at a lively elip for the entire route. Thompson was the star of the losers displaying some nice individual work which enabled him to go the length of the rink several times. Bouckley and Johnegon were the hest for Bt Gregory's, The first period saw the Saints leading 1-0 and at the end of the second 2-1, while no score was made in the final hear. Saints Beore First Right from the face-off the pace was fast, hoth teams entering the fray determined to win. Heavy hody- checking on hoth sides was much in evidence alhough penalities were few. Pepey Canning handled the game well, keeping the players wel in hand and consequently play was fairly elean. The first period was well advanced -heore Boueckley skatec down the side and drew first blood for St. Gregory's, Th»; was the only counter of the period and play was ahout evenly divided. Each team had several shots on goal, but good work by the goalies kept down the Score. In commencing the second session the Saints came through with their second gounl, but five minutes later Trew got away and shot from out- side' the defence, beating McKinnon for the Presbyterian's first and only tully of the game There was nc further scoring in this period of in the final stanza It was one of the most stoutly contested battles seen at Bradley's rink this year. and those who saw the performance are looking forward to seing many such conflicts before the senior series is decided How the teams lined up: 8t.
