It is, therefore, very fitting that "Who's Who Around the Job" should feature Mr. Craig this week, Hamilton S. Craig was born at Detroit, Michigan. He received his early education in Detroit and Des Moines, Iowa. In 1925 he graduated from the University of Minnesota with the degree of B.S. in C.E. . Following graduation, Mr. Craig took a position with the Illinois Steel Organization at Chicago and from there went to one of the foremost railroads in the United States, "The Milwaukee Road", In 1930, "Ham" Craig moved to the Kimberly-Clark Corporation where he started as a draftsman in the Kimberly Mill. Later, as a Process Engineer, he showed such promise that when the United States entered World War II and Kimberly-Clark embarked upon an intensive ordnance program at their Kimlark Mill in Neenah, Wisconsin. Mr. Craig assumed responsibilities as Assembly Plant Manager and later as Assistant General Manager of the Ordnance Division. When Kimberly-Clark Corporation formed the wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary, LongLac Pulp & Paper Company, Limited, in 1945, Mr. Craig was appointed Manager, As Manager of the LongLac organization "Ham" Craig was literally in on the ground floor since he assumed active "on the job" responsibility for the five parties that surveyed the seven differ- ent mill and town sites prior to the selection of the location where the Terrace Bay project is now being built. (Mr. Craig has agreed tc give us the story behind the choice of the present site for publication in "Terrace Bay News" at a later date.) Other Kimberly-Clarkers who saw active service in those initial stages of this development were: C.W.Nelson (Assistant Vice President, Kimberly-Clark) and George DeLong (formerly of Kimberly-Clark, Neenah, and now with LongLac's mechanical equipment department at Terrace Bay). During the ensuing two years, since the initial surveys, the LongLac organization established a head office in Toronto and began to carve an entire community virtually out of the woods at Terrace Bay until now, the project has more than 1200 persons connected with it. In 1929 at Chicago, H.S.Craig, Married Sara Spitler, The Craigs have a boy, Chuck, age 6, &mong his hobbies "Ham" Craig counts sailing, fishing and model railroading. He also plays excellent chess and bridge. &stute, reserved, and possessing a tremendous executive capacity for work, Hamilton S, Craig has quietly met the challenge of the responsibility for building an organization that is charged with the task of establishing a twenty-million dollar project at Terrace Bay, and relating to that project the business practices, philosophy and ideals of the 75-year old Kimberly-Clark Corporation. The measure of success which has been achieved at this project to date, reflects the ability of the man tc build an organization capable of outstanding accomplishments in the face of abnormal conditions -- a direct tribute to Mr. Craig personally and to all those who have laboured hard and long to bring the project to its present stage of development. Perhaps the calibre of the man can be judged best by the honest admission that his greatest thrill to date at Terrace Bay was the day he first heard children's voices in the Townsite and watched those children at play with the full realization that a new community was being born, And now, "Ham" Craig, as you and your family are about to take up residence in this "new community", we sincerely welcome you. We're proud to be associated with you in this great under- taking. -c0o-
