Parents are asked to register their child by Feb. 5. Registration will be by appointment on- ly -- in-person and/or virtual -- and fami- lies are asked to contact their local elemen- tary school to find out which dates have been scheduled. You can determine your home school or find a registration form at www.hdsb.ca. If you hold a work permit and are regis- tering your child for the first time with HDSB, if either the parent or child has a study permit/visa, or if the parent is a per- manent resident applicant on visitor sta- tus, families should contact the HDSB Wel- come Centre. When registering, you should have the following original documents: Proof of address; proof of age; proof of citizenship and if you are not the child's parent, or if you have sole custody, bring proof of custody (court order). To register to begin school in this fall, junior kindergarten (Year 1) children must be four years old by Dec. 31, 2021, and se- nior kindergarten (Year 2) children must be five years old by Dec. 31, 2021. To learn more about HDSB's kindergar- ten program, visit the HDSB website. At www.kindergarten.hdsb.ca, future students can explore a kindergarten class- room to see what their classroom will look like. There are videos to watch, pictures to view and activities. Parents/guardians can learn about the kindergarten pro- gram, play-based learning, community re- sources and before- and after-school care.
