According to a press re- lease, officers investigated a male communicating on- line between June 17, 2019 and June 11, 2020 with someone he believed to be less than 16 years of age, for a sexual purpose. Police say the male used the following display and usernames on various popular messaging and so- cial media platforms: • madeincanada • John (with smiley face emoji beside the name) • John Snyde • MaverickKW79 • Kwguy34@gmail.com On Thursday, June 11, Bradley Brian Scott, a 40- year-old man from Water- loo, was arrested and charged with luring a child to commit invitation to sexual touching, luring a child to distribute sexu- ally explicit material and luring a child to attempt to make child pornography. Scott appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton for a bail hear- ing on Friday. ARRESTED AFTER HOME BREAK-INS A 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with various criminal of- fences, including six counts of break and enter, following several thefts in Waterloo this spring while the victims slept. On Thursday, the Water- loo Regional Police Ser- vice's Break, Enter and Au- to Theft team released im- ages of a male they wanted to identify in relation to the investigation. On May 10, two attempts and one break and enter oc- curred in the area of Blyth- wood Road and Parkwood Court in Waterloo while the homeowners were sleeping. The suspect cut window screens in efforts to gain entry, however, the windows were locked. In the third incident, the suspect entered the residence through an unlocked rear door. The suspect stole per- sonal property including a wallet containing credit cards. On June 3, during the evening hours, while homeowners were sleep- ing, a suspect entered a res- idence on Parkwood Drive in Waterloo. The suspect gained entry by removing the screen and entering through the window. The suspect then stole the vic- tim's wallet containing multiple credit cards that were then used at various locations within Waterloo. In addition to the six break and enter charges, the 21-year-old suspect has also been charged with pos- session of stolen property, theft under $5,000 and use of stolen credit card data. Police would like to thank members of the media and the public for their as- sistance and remind home- owners to ensure all win- dows and doors are locked, even when you're home. CRIME The cities of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge have announced the can- cellation of all in-person arts and culture events this summer. In Waterloo, those in- clude things like Movies in the Park, Author After- noons, Open Streets and the Summer Concert series. Some events will be re- placed with online ver- sions in support of physical distancing guidelines. In addition, the city's arts and culture team will be host- ing special "pop-up" events, when permitted by public health guidelines. City staff are working closely with event organiz- ers and any associated rental fees will be refund- ed. Announcements on new formats, future dates, and alternative events are expected to continue throughout the summer as staff and community groups review options and plan next steps.
