25 | O akville B eaver | T hursday,July 16,2020 insidehalton.com COWAN, Norma Leone Marion May 25, 1931 - July 2, 2020 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Norma, age 89, born in Lethbridge Alberta, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2020 at her home in Oakville surrounded by her family following a courageous two year battle with cancer. Norma was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her husband of 65 years, Dennis Toews, her daughters Mary Johannesson (husband David), Martha Motta (partner John) and grandchildren Michelle and James Johannesson and Rebecca and Ryan Motta. Norma had a life-long passion for advanced education and spent 15 years expanding her knowledge through a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Social Work degree from McMaster University, a Master of Science in Education - School Counselling from Niagara University, New York and a Diploma in Psychology/Social Work from the Stratford Career Institute, QC. As a Psychiatric Social Worker for the Peel Children's Aid Society and the Hincks Centre for Children's Mental Health, Norma spent many years helping others. She enjoyed the arts, theatre, and spending the winter months in Portugal with Dennis. She maintained her sharp mind and wit until the end. Daughter of Harold and Alma Kennedy (deceased) of Cornwall, Ontario; beloved sister to Bob (Kennedy, Marlene); loving wife to John (Metcalf -deceased and William (Carson- deceased); cherished Mother to Robert (Metcalf, Linda), Janice (Metcalf), Lynn (Metcalf, Carlos Efstathiou) and John (Metcalf, Suzanne); adored grandmother to Thomas (Metcalf, Meaghan), Dustin (Metcalf, Lindsey), Tyler (Metcalf, Caitlin), Alexandra (Metcalf), Katie (Hourigan), Samantha (Metcalf), Drake (Metcalf), Victoria (Metcalf) and Julia (Hanna). We are grateful to the many dedicated caregivers who have been present for our Mom during this especially difficult and uncertain time. From the medical personnel at Joseph Brant Hospital's ICU whom allowed us to be with our Mom when she passed, to her caregivers and friends at Bonnie Place Retirement community, Thank You. We are heartbroken; but know that our Mom will be greatly missed and fondly remem- bered. A memorial service was held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home in Oakville on June 29th. The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran MAHANNAH, Frederick Paul February 26, 1940 - June 13, 2020 ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Frederick Paul Mahannah of Oakville, Ontario passed away suddenly on Saturday June 13, 2020, at the age of 80. Fred died peacefully with his wife Norma and their children by his side. Fred was born in Cowansville, Quebec, the eldest of four children and one of many cousins in a large, extended family. He joined The Bell Telephone Company in 1957; married Norma in 1964 and they have four children. Fred's job with the Bell brought them to Sherbrooke, Sudbury, Waterloo and London before settling in Oakville in 1979. Two assignments with Bell Canada International took them to Trinidad and Saudi Arabia before Fred retired in 1989. Fred and Norma then enjoyed many warm winters in Florida with their friends at Grenelefe Resort in Haines City. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Mahannah and Myrtle "Bunnie" Mahannah, and is survived by his wife Norma Mahannah and their four children Jeff Mahannah (Michael Hammond) Mark Mahannah (Darlene Milley) Robin Mooney (Paul) Cheryl Mahannah and five grandchildren Sarah Mooney, Adam Mooney, Finn Mahannah, James Mooney and Keats Mahannah as well his three siblings Marilyn Mahannah, Rodney Mahannah (Rita) and Brenda Ladd (Doug.)
