Email cgamble@theifp.ca NATURE'S GLOW From our readers 'Quote unquote' 2015 promises to be an exciting year Happy New Year and welcome to 2015. This will certainly be an interesting year. We got off to a great start with our Ca- nadian Junior hockey team winning the gold medal. Sometime this year a federal election will be called and provide us with an- other opportunity to exercise our demo- cratic right. Our neighbours to the east in Peel Re- gion have new mayors in Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga and Peel has a new regional chair. All of the new mayors have a great deal of expe- rience and it's important for Halton Hills to main- tain our existing good re- lationship with Peel. **** Last year we an- nounced that Council approved the listing for sale of three surplus properties in Georgetown. They are the Memorial Arena site, lands at our Civic Centre location and the former ambulance building on Guelph St. Proceeds from the sale of these lands will contribute to our revenues and fund other projects. So where are we now? Council has approved the development concepts for both the Memorial Arena site and Civic Centre lands. Staff are in the process of pulling to- gether necessary studies, official plan and zoning amendments in order to ac- commodate the proposed development concepts. We hope to be out to market on these two properties in early 2015 for the Me- morial Arena site and later in the year for the Civic Centre lands. With respect to the former ambulance building, staff have received letters of interest and are presently evaluating the options. **** I invite everyone to come out to the Acton Winter Carnival on Jan. 25 at Pros- pect Park in Acton. Lots of outdoor activi- ties are being planned. This will be a lot of fun for the whole family! Last year was a huge success, we just need snow! **** Monday, Feb. 16 is Fam- ily Day and the Town's Rec- reation & Parks has a full day of fun family activities planned for you to enjoy at no cost! Please visit our website haltonhills.ca/fami- lyday for further details. **** This is the second year of the Community Sustainabil- ity Investment Fund and it is an exciting initiative for our community. This is a worthwhile investment in our community. The Fund continues to show our com- mitment to take practical steps that will raise the quality of life in our community. I encourage organizations to review the Community Sustainability Investment Fund for eligibility and explore ways in which we can jointly shape our Town's future. Please visit our website for further details at www.haltonhills.ca/sustain- ability. **** Keeping it real!
