Professional Arts Building 99 Sinclair Ave., Suite 210, Georgetown 905-873-6642 Serving the community of Halton Hills and surrounding areas since 1992 The Georgetown Tinnitus is a subjective experience where one hears a sound, ringing or noise when no external physical sound is present. Some call it "head noises", "ear ringing," or other similar things. WHAT CAUSES IT? There are many causes; indeed almost everything that can go wrong with the ear has Tinnitus associated with it as a symptom. Things as simple as wax against the eardrum to very serious items such as tumors on the 7th facial nerve can produce Tinnitus. Meniere's disease has Tinnitus associated with it. One of the most common causes of Tinnitus is exposure to excessively loud sounds such as shooting, chain saws, rock concerts, or other loud noises. In fact, he can do what everyone else can do, sometimes with the help of a special device. Jacob has always had a pas- sion for sports and a love of hockey. Thanks to support from The War Amps, Jacob recently received a sledge for playing sledge hockey. Jacob is a mem- ber of The War Amps Child Am- putee (CHAMP) Program and, as such, is eligible to receive fi- nancial assistance with artificial limbs and recreational devices. Instead of wearing skates, Jacob sits strapped with a two- blade sledge that is raised high enough to allow the puck to pass beneath. "Hockey is a fan- tastic sport," said Jacob. "It's good exercise and a lot of fun with the guys." Jacob's parent, Adam and Sarah, are proud of their son. "To see Jacob participating in a sport he loves is awesome," said dad, Adam. "Watching him play beyond these challenges, confirms that he can accomplish anything he sets his mind to," added mom, Sarah. The War Amps encourages Champs to develop a positive attitude towards their amputa- tion, and live to their full poten- tial. "Jacob's determination and zest for life is an inspiration to all," said Danita Chisholm, Ex- ecutive Director, CHAMP Pro- gram. "With the public's sup- port of the Key Tag and Address Label Service, we are happy to help young amputees like Ja- cob obtain the tools they need to enjoy some of their favourite activities." Local teen scores thanks to The War Amps Jacob Calvert on his new hockey sledge.
