ET By Suzy Maloy wr Daniél Craig talks about his latest movie "Knives Out', staying in shape for Bond mov- ies, the movies he grew up with and says that he's tired of travelling the globe as opposed to staying at home for a Guinness. Q: Daniel, you caused a bit of a controversy when you said there are more people killing each other during the holidays. What triggered that comment? Daniel: I didn't say it like that. What | said was that Thanksgiving and the 'holidays is a time of everybody comin' together. There are more people killed during that time than any time of the year. It's just because families spend so much time together they drink, they argue, etc. Thats why I said they should go and see this movie instead. er -------- ee TR TE I TU TE LIT Q:"Knives Out" is funny, and it's smart, and it has a very good social comment. Is that one of the reasons you took this role? Daniel: 'Not necessarily You take a job be- cause you feel it's right for you. This one felt ; like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Great story, great cast. | wanted to be part of this. 7s Q:"Knives Out" is also a very topical movie, what's the take away for the audience? Daniel: It's a funny movie from beginning to end. That's what we were aiming at. It wasn't a political movie. And it does have a good dose of red meat. Equal representation on both sides, liberals and conservatives. My charac- ter sees that Ana's character is in trouble and needs help, Q: You seem to have grown into your role as a movie star. Back in the early days you were a lot more "difficult". When did you learn to approach the business with the lightness and humor as you do now? Daniel: I've been very lucky to have gone through these ups and downs and learn how to deal with success and failure. am now at a point where | can really enjoy. It gives me the biggest thrill to go to work Ain Q: 20 years ago you could not have done a movie like this? . Daniel: Of course not. | did funny movies but they are rare. Maybe once in your career. Q: Do you like this genre of "who's done it"? Daniel: Yes, | grew up watching the Agatha Christie movies and "Columbo". When | read the script | knew this is what it was. | recog- nized it immediately. Daniel: Yep, that's it, | am done. | want to relax and sleep. | am tired of having to travel the globe all the time. And | want to enjoy my Guinness once in a while. Q: Bond required you to stay in shape all the time. That can be quite exhausting indeed? Yes, it can be very exhausting. | don't mind staying in shape but [ want to do it on my own terms. Q: Did you enjoy playing Bond? Daniel: I loved it.It was a chance of a lifetime to play him. But it's time to move on. Q: A lot of women and men in Hollywood feel the pressure to look young. Did you ever feel that pressure? As | said, | try to stay fit. But I try to go from within.You are going to lose that battle against age at some point. Q: Ana de Armas is the new Bond Girl,she also plays Marylin Monroe. Quite the talent, right? Daniel: She is having a moment. She has the chops. She is beautiful clearly, funny, smart She gets it.
