NEWS Country Heritage Park CfO wins award KEVIN NAGEL : knagel@metroland.com Jamie Reaume, chief ex- ecutive officer of Country Heritage Park in Milton, was one of three Champion Award recipients honoured at the annual Farm & Food Care conference in Guelph last week. Reaume's two decades of experience as an agriculture advocate, both in the field and at the policy level, make him an ideal choice for the Champion Award, accord- ing to neminators. As the founder and for- mer executive director of the Holland Marsh Growers' Association, Reaume was determined to demonstrate to Ontarians what the marsh and those who farm in it have to offer. He is also responsible for dubbing the region as Canada's "salad bowl.™ * Under his leadership, the group was awarded the Pre- mier Agriculture Innova- tion Regional Award and re- leased the award-winning documentary The Marsh Farm & Food Care/photo Jamie Reaume, céntre, was the recipient of the Farm and Food Care Ontario Champion Award. Mucker's Tale. Reaume is currently the CEQ at Country Heritage Park in Milton, where he has revitalized the 80-acre park into a farming- and food-ed- ucation and appreciation centre. Reaume has restored the park to a revenue-gener- ating operation with growth in public and corporate in- terest, facility rental and ed- " ucation programs. Over 12,000 students in grades 1 to 10 participate in programs that include food literacy, history, outdoor ed- ucation, sustainability, envi- ronmental awareness and the arts. The park now fea- tures community gardens, bees, livestock and a com- munity Kitchen. Since 1999 the Champion Award has been presented annually to worthy agricul- tural advocates.
