NEWS Marshall named one of Canada's Outstanding Known as someone who helps students realize their full potential, Peter Mar- shall has been named one of Canada's Outstanding Principals. The honour was be- stowed on the Boyne Public School principal by The Learning Partnership, an organization which recog- nizes the unique and vital contribution of principals in publicly-funded schools. "Peter Marshall is a ded- icated leader who puts stu- dent success and happi- ness first," says Stuart Miller, director of educa- tion for the Halton District School Board. Each year, 40 principals. across the country are rec- ognized for demonstrating innovation, entrepreneur- ial spirit and for their re- markable efforts toward improving public educa- tion. Recipients atfiend a five- day executive leadership training program at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Manage- ment in late February. "It is an honour to be recognized by The Learn- ing Partnership," says Mar- shall. "It is humbling to read some of the kind com- ments written by students, families and staff about the work we have been doing at Boyne Public School. There are so many wonder- ful administrators within our board and this really is an indication of the great work throughout the Hal- ton District School Board. I feel very fortunate to be in an amazing school with terrific children, support- ive families and hard- working staff." His colleagues say his knowl- edge of the curriculum and research-based practice is driven by caring and empa- thy, which results in his ef- fective leadership style. This is the fourth con- secutive year Halton Dis- trict School Board princi- pals have received a Cana- da's Outstanding Princi- pals award: Alka Sahai (2015), Michelle Newlands (2016), and Loui Silvestri and Andrea Taylor (both 2017).
