Oakville's Jeff Oes- treicher was recently diag- nosed with esophageal can- cer, which has spread to the peritoneal lining of his stomach. The diagnosis has been hard on the 45-year-old's wife Carey-Ann and daughters Ella, 9, and Brooke, 7, particularly be- cause Jeff has served as the family's primary care giver ever since Carey-Ann suf- fered a brain injury seven years ago. The GoFundMe page dedicated to the family says in addition to Jeff's chemotherapy treatment plan, he is participating in alternative cancer treat- ments, which leave the family thousands of dollars out of pocket each month. Other treatment options involve a hospital stay in the United States that would not be covered by Ontario's health-care sys- tem. The GoFundMe page, which was set up March 1 had, as of April 15, raised $48,389 of its $100,000 goal. A 3 on 3 Hockey Tourna- ment to Fight Cancer scheduled for Saturday, April 27 is intended to raise additional funds to pay for Jeff's cancer treatment and to create an education fund for his children. The free tournament will take place at Canlan Ice Sports at 2300 Cornwall Rd., from 3 to 9 p.m. All ages are welcome to attend. There will also be an auction with 67 items to bid on.
